Jasper watched from the kitchen window as Harry and Charlie talked. He didn't like it, but he took it in stride. Since their return from England, this was the first time the two of them had talked alone and the vampire had no doubt that they needed it...
"Stop worrying," Edward told him as he came up behind him.
"I'd probably worry less if I could hear what they were saying to each other. Can you?"
"I can hear through Charlie's mind. But I won't tell you anything. Trust him."
Jasper's face closed, seeing his mate and ex like this reminded him of the time he'd seen them make love. He longed for Charlie to be out of the picture, to be left alone with Harry, free to kiss him and make love to him...
"It'll come," Edward told him with a smile before going back to his business.
Esme entered the room with several bags of groceries, she was concerned with Jasper for a moment, but her emotions quickly stabilized.
"You helping me?"
The empath nodded and stood behind the table, from where he could still see his companion, and began to peel the vegetables.
After the battle at the English Ministry, the Cullens, the Weasleys, Harry and Narcissa Malfoy, Luna, Neville, and Seamus had returned to the States together. Harry's house in Alaska had been ruined by the battle there, and his house in Forks was still not ready. So they had all moved into the Cullen's house in Forks, except for Charlie who had gone to his brother Bill's house so he wouldn't have Harry and Jasper around all the time.
Luna and Neville had explained that they were at the ministry that day for an interview the blonde was preparing for the Quibbler. Of course, she had instead done a story on the day's events. She then asked Harry and the Weasleys for permission to tell the story of what they had been through because of Gestand, which they agreed to do. The young journalist and her boyfriend followed them to the United States to collect the stories they needed.
Seamus was looking for an internship and had come to see if the ministry could give him a scholarship to go to Seattle. Carlisle had told him that since he was a friend of Harry's and had risked his life for him, that he was willing to help him if he wanted. The Irishman had looked at his friend, surprised, who had made him understand with a nod that he should accept.
Agent Brigtstones had come to regularize the situations of all the new arrivals, offering to accompany them in their visa applications. She had also lifted the protective measures that had limited the lives of Harry, Andromeda and Teddy, as well as Bill and his family. While the Weasleys were delighted to be able to take back their name, as was Andromeda, Harry was not, choosing to keep the Smith name for himself and Teddy. The wizard had explained to Jasper that the wizarding public only saw his name and his scar, not the person he really was. For over a year, he had enjoyed his anonymity and intended to preserve it.
Their guests were all out that day. Andromeda and Fleur were on the reservation to see if they could enroll the children in the local school. The vampires had of course protested the idea and explained that they had no right to go to the reservation, but the witches had explained that in case of accidental magic, the shifters would know how to handle the situation better than the school in Forks. Especially since it was possible that Teddy would one day turn out to be a werewolf and that he would need a pack to help him live well with his condition. Seamus had gone to Seattle, accompanied by Luna, Neville, Emmett and Rosalie. The Weasleys had gathered at Bill's house to commemorate their lost loved ones. Jasper suspected that the ceremony must be over since Charlie was there. He wondered, however, if the other Weasleys had not returned yet because they still had things to discuss with each other or to give Charlie time alone with Harry.
