Jasper returned to the Denali clan house with his brothers and Alice several hours after leaving. He had been drinking more than usual, prompted by Edward and Alice who had told him that he was going to need to be completely in control in the next few hours. He hadn't really understood, but the excitement emanating from the seer and the apprehension of the telepath had convinced him.
"Where's Carlisle?" asked Esme immediately when they arrived.
"Jasper lost control and someone saw us. Carlisle stayed to talk to her," Edward explained, letting out his stress. "He said he'd meet us here."
"What?" shouted Rosalie. "What do you mean he lost control in front of a witness?"
"Rose, we stopped him before he hurt anyone," Emmett tried to calm her down by hugging her.
Jasper secluded himself in a corner of the living room, willing to ignore Rosalie's anger, Esme's compassion, and the others' concern. He still had nothing to say to his family, he still didn't understand what had happened. All he knew was that he wanted to see this young man again, he needed to see him, to understand why he had suddenly been deprived of his scent, of his emotions when he had entered his home and why he had felt this sense of calm when he had been able to look into his eyes. He hoped that Carlisle would have some information to give him, that he could answer his questions.
He let his memories of the young man envelop him, cut him off from his family who were still discussing the incident. He remembered his face, his emerald green eyes so deep, his brown hair in a mess. The venom invaded his throat at the memory, but he didn't feel like feeding, he had already had his fill of blood. It was something else, another craving, that he could not identify at the moment, but he would get there, he was sure.
The arrival of Carlisle put an end to his reveries. He was serene as usual , but his face was serious. He gathered the whole family in the living room.
"Jasper?" he asked simply. He didn't need to say more, the empath knew what he wanted.
"I don't know what happened. The smell of the young man drew me in", his throat burned as he recalled the exquisite scent. "I lost control, but his scent disappeared as he entered the house."
"Yes, so he has been living there for several months with his mother-in-law and son from what the mother-in-law told me. She was the one who spotted us despite the distance. She wasn't afraid of me. I have to go back to pick her up there in three hours, she insisted on coming here. She said she knew why you reacted the way you did."
Everyone was perplexed by Carlisle's words. A few emotions differed such as Rosalie's concern for her family's well-being or Jasper's who was mostly curious about what this person had to teach him. The term mother-in-law, on the other hand, made him angry. He didn't really understand why, but the fact that the young man was married and a father bothered him.
"So she's not afraid of us and she comes here?" asked Rosalie, amazed and doubtful.
"That's it," confirmed Carlisle, a little worried.
"It's going to be fine," informed Alice, confident.
"What did you see?" asked the head of the family, already reassured.
"She will answer our questions, she will return home in perfect health and we will see her and her family regularly."
Everyone nodded, they trusted Alice, even if the situation made them uncomfortable. The decision was made that Rosalie and Esmée, along with the three women of the Denali clan, would go and feed before their guest arrived. Jasper left the house, ran to the trees a few hundred yards away, and climbed to the top of a large pine tree. He knew that Carlisle and Edward were watching him, and Alice through her visions, and that was exactly why he had left. He needed to get away from the emotions of his family to refocus on himself. He felt very agitated at the idea of coming into contact, first with the young man's mother-in-law, then with him according to Alice. He did not understand this feeling, which was like excitement, impatience. He did not understand why he felt this way. However, it was not what bothered him the most, contrary to the jealousy which had consumed him when he had understood that the brown had had a child with...
