Chapter 19

Wheeler

Dustin had found a way to contact us from the other side. We could almost hear him yelling in the walls. He guided us upstairs back to my room and we all waited patiently for him to tell us what to do next. We were all knelt next to the bed, Steve next to Nancy, then myself, Eddie and Robin in a row. We watched as the fireflies appeared again. Robin let out a small gasp as Nancy ran her fingers through them, the lights dancing on her fingertips once again.

TRY THAT!

Henderson's voice echoed around us once again, and Nancy hesitated for a moment before moving her finger through the lights to spell,

H I

We waited

THAT WORKED!!

Dustin called out. We all laughed, excited by our new discovery. I reached down, taking Eddie's hand in mine. I saw him look at me out of the corner of my eye, but chose to ignore it, squeezing his hand right. He squeezed back.

Nancy began to write again.

S T U C K

Dustin's voice echoed through the walls,

CAN'T YOU COME BACK THROUGH THE WATERGATE??

Nancy hesitated before writing again to explain. I was distracted, however, by Eddie's thumb running along the back of my hand.

G U A R D E D

Henderson went on to explain how he thinks there's another gate, one at each murder site.

"Wait, Eddie, how far is your trailer?" I asked. Without a moment of hesitation, he replied,

"7 miles." I glanced over at him. He had the distance of our houses memorized.

"It's too far to walk." I realized out loud.

"But wait," Robin spoke up, "I know your house is all creepily frozen in time and shit, but haven't you always had bikes?" Nancy nodded.

E D D I E ' S

She spelled into the lights. They would meet us there.
