Chapter 25

Wheeler

Steve drove us to a wide open field surrounded by trees, and we all piled out of the RV to prepare the weapons for the fight. Robin and Steve filled bottles with gasoline and cloth to throw at Vecna once caught on fire. Nancy and Max worked on prepping the guns, and Dustin was making shields with nails sticking out of them. When I asked the Sinclair siblings what they were going to do to help, they said they had an idea for spears made out of sticks.

Coincidentally, the Sinclairs had no intention of going into the woods to collect sticks. So I volunteered to collect a few for them.

I wandered through the woods, keeping close by the tree line so I could be heard if anything happened. I searched for 10 minutes and had only found one, and was about to give up before I heard a voice behind me.

"Hey." I turned to see Eddie leaning against a near tree, playing with his rings as a smirk toyed at his mouth. I immediately felt myself begin to blush as he began to walk towards me, and I noticed the leaf in his hands he was picking apart, tossing the pieces to the ground.

"Doing chores for the Sinclairs?" He chuckled as I picked up another stick. I nodded with a small smile.

"What can I say? I'm like a dad to these kids." Eddie let out a laugh, and I blushed even harder when he smiled wide.

"Then who's their mom?" I shrugged.

"Steve, I guess." Eddie's smile faltered for a moment before looking down at his leaf. "Hey." I grasped his attention again, "I thought you weren't getting jealous anymore." He shook his head and took a strand of his hair, covering his face with it in embarrassment.

"I never said I wouldn't get jealous Wheeler. That's impossible." He threw down the rest of his leaf, letting his hair fall back with the rest of his curls. "He was your first. But I hope I'll be your last." He looked up at me, our eyes meeting for a moment before his eyes returned to the dirt. "Is that cheesy?" I gave him a smile, which he returned shyly. I tossed him one of the sticks, which he caught skillfully.

"Lets see how well you can defend yourself." I said, taking a stance as if to sword fight. He threw his head back in another laugh, and to my surprise, pulled his hair back into a low bun, taking the same stance as me. The curls that fell around his face framed it perfectly, and his pulled back hair gave me a glimpse of what he might look like if he chopped it all off. He hit my stick with his, stepping closer with surprisingly good form. I let out another laugh as I hit his back, and we began a mild playful sword fight. In one swift movement, which caught even me by surprise, I swung my leg across his feet, knocking him to the ground. When my leg swung back I tripped over my own feet, toppling forward and landing on top of him.

Eddie groaned, rubbing the back of his head as I used my hands to take my weight off of him, afraid he was hurt. Once he met my eyes, I saw he was okay and took the opportunity to raise my stick to his throat triumphantly. His eyes somehow deepened as he looked at me. I got the feeling he didn't feel this way often, or even ever. The trouble with this dynamic was that I had. I'd felt this exact way about Steve. But he fell in love with my sister, and it broke my heart, starting a horrible pattern. Eddie was different, in a way. It didn't feel like a rebound like all the past relationships had. It felt natural to fall for him. I wasn't forcing anything. I almost didn't want to fall for him, knowing how he made me feel.

Without much of a second thought I leaned down and pressed my lips to his. The world stopped as we kissed, everything going quiet in this moment. His hands rose to my waist, pulling my closer if it was even possible. I broke the kiss after a few seconds, pushing up to stand and end the moment. Eddie had other ideas. He gripped my waist and rolled us over, so I was on the bottom.

Oh my God.

He deepened the kiss, as if he was desperate for more of me. He moved his kisses down my jawline and down to my neck, kissing my wound from the demo bats.

"Is this okay?" He whispered as he continued to kiss my neck slowly. I nodded, my eyes closing. He huffed. "Say it."

"Yes." I whispered, bringing my hands up to tangle in his hair. He kissed back up to my lips, the passion getting even more intense.

When he broke it, he sat up, ripping off his jacket and tossing it aside, then leaned down and brushed my lip with his thumb. His breathing was heavy as his fingers trailed along my chin and across my lips again before he kissed me again.

He kissed me like a man who had been starving for years. His hand that wasn't supporting his weight ran up my waist, my chest and rested on my cheek. I took advantage of his hands being out of the way to creep my own hands up his shirt. I ran my hands along his stomach and chest, feeling his toned muscles. I wished he would take his shirt off. Why did we always do this outside when everyone was nearby? He broke the kiss, looking into my eyes with what I could only interpret as admiration.
"We should stop." He breathed. I could tell he didn't want to, his eyes locked on my lips and my hands still up his shirt.

"Yeah." I whispered back. He finally stood, offering his hand to help me up. I accepted it and he pulled me to my feet, then into a very unexpected hug. I didn't hug him back for a moment, confused about why it was happening. But after a moment I accepted the gesture, wrapping my arms around his neck.

"Thank you." He whispered. I laughed.

"For what?" He sighed, breaking the hug.

"For wanting me. It means a lot."

"I can't really help it, you know."

"Oh I know." He smirked. "I'm irresistible." I snorted and gave him a quick kiss before gathering the sticks once more. Eddie took my hand and guided me out of the trees, dropping it once we were in line of sight of the others.
