Chapter 6

Wheeler

When Max had told me I could stay over at her place, I didn't know whether I felt better or worse. To be so close to Crissy's made me think it wasn't safe. But then again, if it wasn't safe for us, I couldn't bring that danger to my family's house.

Steve convinced Dustin to stay with him and Eddie at Eddie's trailer. We were across the street from each other, which made Steve and I feel better about the kids. Lucas and Erica were made to come home, and Robin chose to go home as well to start research. I continued to look at my watch throughout the night. After what I saw in that trailer, all I could think about what what this now meant. I knew what happened to Crissy would mean calling El, Will and Jonathan. I hated the idea of ruing Mikes trip. I also knew this meant diving headfirst into the same Upside Down shit I'd been apart of for the past 2 years. When I woke up the next morning I counted my hours of sleep...3.

Shit.

I rolled over to see Max's bed empty. I let out a sigh, pushing away my covers and struggling to my feet.

I opened the door and stepped out into the main room of the trailer, seeing Max sitting alone at the kitchen table.

"Hey." she said, glancing up at me. Before I could answer, a knock came at the door. I couldn't blame Max for being hesitant. We both stood for a moment, my heart racing. A loud voice broke the silence.

"It's not a demegorgon I swear!" I rolled my eyes and opened the door to reveal Dustin, Steve and Eddie. "Told you." Dustin smiled obnoxiously, pushing past me into the trailer, followed by Steve.

"Hey," Steve rubbed my shoulder before disappearing inside. I smiled and turned back to Eddie who stood holding a bag in his arms.

"Can I come in?" he asked, a smirk across his face.

"If you're trying to be charming, it's not working Munson." I leaned against the doorframe, crossing my arms. He gave a false look of shock, his hand moving to his chest for effect.

"Me?? I promise, Wheeler, I am the epitome of charm itself." I rolled my eyes at him, gesturing for him to come inside. He gave a curtsy, forcing a snort out of me. His smirk widened as he brushed past me into the trailer. I closed the door and followed the rest of them inside. Dustin was already deep in conversation with Max as Steve looked through the cabinets for God knows what. Eddie nudged my arm lightly, drawing my attention to him.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his normal smirk turned to a comforting half smile. My eyebrows furrowed.

"What do you mean?" I replied. He shrugged.

"You hurled up a weeks worth of food last night. I just figured you wouldn't be-"

"I'm fine." I said, walking away from him and sitting next to Henderson. I could see what Eddie was doing. While I admit he was completely my type and...

I'll say it.

Hot as hell...

I wasn't in the mood for another Billy, Jason or Tommy. And this definitely wasn't the time.

If only men these days weren't after one thing.

"I was thinking about it all night." Dustin pulled out a pile of books out of his bag. "I went through Eddie's Dungeon Master guide-" Eddie snatched his books back from off the table.

"Did you read my tabs??" he exclaimed. "There are spoilers for the next session, man!" Dustin rolled his eyes and took back the books, flipping to a doggy eared page.

"Aaaaand you bent my book." Eddie threw his hands into the air and collapsed in the nearest chair, looking more than mildly upset.

Dustin tapped on the page, turning it so Max and I could see.

"I've heard of this before. The broken bones. The eyes." I shuttered, remembering how Crissy looked. He tapped the page again.

"It's how Mike died last session." Eddie stood from the chair, leaning over me to glance at the page.

"Vecna's curse." Eddie muttered. There was a kind of fear in his voice.

"This wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened." Dustin said directly to Eddie.

"I don't think we have time to fill Munson in on the past 3 years, Henderson." I said in an almost sarcastic tone. I saw Eddie look at me out of the corner of my eye, and never saw him look away.

"It was too much for me." Max added.

"So what, I just don't get the update?" Eddie asked. Steve slammed a glass of water down on the table, making his presence known.

"I think Mr. Munson is going to have to learn as we go." Steve said passive aggressively. Eddie sat back down in his chair, giving a huff.

Our heads turned when we heard a honk from outside.

"That would be Robin." Steve immediately stood and rushed out the door.

Dustin stuffed the books back in Eddie's bag and left it for Eddie to carry. Max and I stood and began following the group out the door.

And I can't say why I did it, but I waited for a moment for Eddie to finish. Then we walked out of the trailer together.
