Jason felt his eyes welling up. He pretended not to hear the thump as she hit the ground. But then he did a double take, and turned, the view confirming what he'd heard.
A splash, then a thump.
Elliana was on the ground, in a bubble of water, that looked almost like an extremely shallow pool.
Except without walls.
With floating water.
Jason immediately jumped to the ground, ignoring the quake that passed through his body as he hit the ground. He ran to Elliana and noticed her in the odd water bubble. He picked her up bridal style and the water instantly evaporated.
He quickly did the math in his head. She'd fallen from around fifteen feet, and into extremely shallow water. She definitely hadn't died, obviously. She'd probably injured something. He wished he'd seen her landing, because he could've seen what had landed first, as that would be the area most likely to have been injured. She was still unconscious, but no blood around her head, which was good.
Suddenly, Elliana woke up and coughed some water. She sat up in Jason's arms which caused him to almost drop her. He smiled, and a sob escaped as he realized she was okay. He knew she hadn't died, but it just felt so relieving to know that she was awake. He crushed his lips to hers on impulse and adrenaline.
At first, Elliana seemed surprised, but within a second she was kissing him back. They stayed like that for a while, until Jason pulled away with another choked sob. He smiled at her, so relieved that his chest felt like it was going to explode with joy.
"What happened?" Elliana asked.
"You fell. I thought you weren't going to be okay, but then... water appeared and you landed in it. I'm just so happy you're okay." Jason said, putting her down but then hugging her.
"I mean, my back kinda hurts, but I'm mostly fine." Elliana said.
Jason wanted to crack a joke about how that phrasing made her sound like an old man, but he just hugged her tighter.
"Thank everything you're okay. Everything. If you would've..."
Jason's voice hiccuped, and he pulled away, unable to meet her gaze.
"I don't know what I would've done."
Elliana smiled, but in a strained and saddened way. "You haven't even known me for two years. Why? Why does it matter to you? Why do... why do I matter to-"
"Because I need you! I can't live without you. I want to say that I don't know why, I want to say that I've only known you for a year. But I can't say that. Because I feel like I've known you my whole life. Because... because you are my whole life. And I know why. I know why I can't live without you. It's because I love you. I love you. Please, don't ever, ever scare me like that again."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." Elliana said, frowning.
Jason hugged her close and pressed his forehead against hers. "I know it's not. I'm sorry. It's just... that scared me to death." He said.
Elliana smiled at him. Jason closed his eyes, as the sight left him and sensation was the only thing that was left. He felt her warmth against him, and smiled. As small colors danced across the darkness of his vision, he felt a pleasant tingling sensation across his lips.
He kissed Elliana back passionately, but still softly. The moment lasted forever, but forever was cut short when Elliana suddenly pulled away. He looked at her, confused, and she seemed to be deep in thought. She then looked back at him.
"Did you say water just appeared?" Elliana asked. "Just, out of thin air?"
"I don't really know. I couldn't bear to look." Jason said.
