Jason looked at Red Mask, who seemed to realize his companions had left. He glittered away after a second. As soon as he was gone, he saw a girl run after the two boys who'd been restrained by Red Mask, Shark Mask and the unmasked old man. A part of him told him that these people were important to him, so he rushed over.
"Are you guys okay?" The girl asked.
One of the boys rubbed a spot of blood from his forehead. "I'm mostly good. Ian?"
The other boy looked up. "I'm a bit dizzy, but I'm fine. Just glad they're gone." He said.
"Who are they, anyways?" Jason asked.
"They're the people who genetically manipulated us." The girl said.
"And the people who kidnapped Stacy." The second boy said.
"Who's Stacy?" Jason asked. "And what do you mean, genetically manipulated?"
"Oh right. You lost your memories. Do you know who we are?" The girl asked.
Jason shook his head.
"I'm Rebecca. I'm your sister." The girl said.
Jason was taken aback. "Really?"
"Yep."
"Sorry." Jason apologized.
"What for? Rebecca asked.
"For forgetting you." How could Jason forget his own sister?
"It's not your fault." The second boy said, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I'm Ian, but the way. And that's Alex. You and him are best friends."
The first boy-Alex smiled with a little wave.
"When we were kids, we were sent to an orphanage." Rebecca said.
"So I don't have parents?" Jason asked.
Rebecca shook her head sadly. "They died in a car crash a few weeks after you were born. We went to live with our aunt."
"Were our parents nice?"
Rebecca looked thoughtful. "Yes. Our mom was beautiful. She had sandy blond hair that I would always play with. She was tall. She would always pick me up and carry me around, whooshing like an airplane. Her hands were soft. She was a baker, so they had to be soft. She was always covered in flour. She never followed a recipe. Hardly ever baked the same thing twice. She loved trying new things. She would always take us to the ice cream shop around the corner. I remember once, she got their pineapple ice cream. But she never liked pineapple. She took one lick, then stole Daddy's chocolate. He was stuck with the pineapple. He thought it was gross too, so he gave it to me, and I loved it. I was so happy to have two ice creams, but then Daddy wrestled my chocolate from me. I started to cry, and so dad scooped his chocolate out and put some of it on my cone."
Jason looked at Alex and Ian, but even they seemed surprised at the story. Apparently, Rebecca hadn't ever shared this story before. She seemed to be almost in a trance now, lost in her own memories.
"Daddy was amazing too. He was just barely taller than Mama. He had dark brown hair, and stubble. It always felt weird and scratchy, but I loved it. Mama was always laughing at it and telling him to shave it off, but he never did. He handled everything at the bakery, aside from the actual baking. He was horrible at baking, and cooking too. He made amazing fries, though. He would hand cut the potatoes and all. That was really all he could cook that didn't taste like a disaster. And their laughs. They both had the best laughs. Mama's sounded like a sweet melody, and Daddy's was warm and heavy. Everything was perfect.
