Jason felt surprisingly calm. His mind wasn't going dark like before. It wasn't getting all fuzzy like when Frederick arrived. It was almost as if there was a calming light in the distance. The brighter the light became, the calmer he felt. Soon enough, the light was fully around him, leaving him standing on the only remaining sliver of darkness. It wasn't blinding, it was just perfectly bright. He took a deep breath and stuck his arm out, letting it touch the light. His fingers tingled pleasantly. He took another step, and his forearm was engulfed.

Before he could take another step, the dark floor he was standing on disappeared and he fell, grasping for the light. But the calmness was gone. The light was no different from the dark. The only thing that Jason could do was fall.

Elliana stood, incredibly confused, as Jason reached forward. His eyes were closed, his face emotionless. But once his arm was fully extended, he took a step. At that moment, Elliana rushed towards him. But the second that she stepped within a meter of him, he began flailing around.

Jason was in a dark room. There wasn't a calming source of light. There wasn't any source of light. The darkness felt almost tangible. He couldn't see his hands, not even when they were directly in front of his face. He waited a few minutes, deciding to give his eyes time to adjust. But after what felt like twelve eternities, he was still drenched in darkness. He tried to see anything within the darkness, but it was impossible. Soon enough, he couldn't tell when his eyes were open or closed. He tried to blink, only to realize his eyes were already closed. He tried to open his eyes and look around, but they were already open.

After a long time, his eyes began to hurt. He'd never heard of the darkness hurting his eyes, until he realized that it wasn't the dark at all. The darkness made him think his eyes were closed. He hadn't been blinking. His eyes started to burn, so he tried to shut them. They wouldn't shut. Jason had just forgotten how to close his eyes. He screamed for help, but no one was there. Only the darkness. Except he didn't feel alone. If anything, he felt like he was being watched.

The darkness started to take on its own being. Maybe it was Jason's sore eyes playing tricks on him, but he swore he could see the silhouette of a beast, and the silhouette seemed like it had darker darkness than the other darknesses. Which made zero sense. But then the beast stepped away. Then again. The beast was leaving. Jason took a deep breath, closing his eyes.

Closing his eyes...

Closing his eyes.

Well, that solved one problem.

But then the beast stepped closer again. Closer. Then it was barreling towards Jason at full speed. He screamed, but his screams were swallowed by the darkness around him. Then his eyes started to hurt. Again, he couldn't blink. Again, he forgot how to close his eyes. But the closer the monster came, the more he seemed to forget. He tried to brace his arms in preparation for the attack, but his arms wouldn't obey him. He forgot how to use his arms. When the monster was awfully close to him, he collapsed. He forgot how to use his legs. Then, when it was a meter away, he realized that he wasn't breathing. He forgot how to breathe. But then, when the monster prepared to pounce, it stopped. Took a few cautious steps towards Jason. Got close. Really close. Less than a hair separated them. Jason closed his eyes in fear.

Closed his eyes...

Closed his eyes.

He took a needy inhale, feeling slightly nauseous. He scooted away from the monster, slowly standing up. A growl. Not coming from the monster, but echoing around. Everywhere. It pressed into Jason's eardrums, and he slammed his hands over his ears, but it did nothing to help. Then as quickly as it had started, it stopped. Disappeared. He was so relieved that he didn't notice the monster pouncing towards him again.

The monster reached him, and he was engulfed in the dark darkness that was darker than all other darkness. He remembered how to move, but nothing else. He remembered he was scared, but he didn't know why.

Jason had lost his memories.

Who was Jason?
