Sixteen, Memories Maybe Not Lost

A/N So sorry that all chapter titles are almost the same!

Jason couldn't see. Couldn't hear. Couldn't smell. Couldn't feel. It was as if all of his senses had shut down. Except he could taste. He could taste the air. Crisp, dirty air. It didn't taste like air. It was dirty. Smokey. Smoke. He could taste smoke. He shut his mouth and focused on not breathing. Not inhaling the smoke. It smelled toxic. He couldn't breathe it in. Shouldn't. But after a long moment, he gave in. He inhaled it. It burned in his lungs. But not only that. It also felt as if it was taking a piece out of him. The burning continued in his lungs, and the chunk that left him seemed to leave a gaping hole in him. He coughed once, then continued holding his breath. He couldn't inhale the smoke. But he still wondered. Wondered if Elliana was safe.

Jason's mind felt empty. He couldn't think. Everything he should know was gone. A tear slipped out, and he turned away before Elliana could see it. It was just so weird. So empty. So-

"Wha- what is that?" Jason scratched out.

Elliana looked at him in confusion. "What?" She asked.

"The smoke."

That was all he got out before he gave in to the coughs. It felt like he was choking. He couldn't breathe, couldn't speak. Eventually though, the smoke seemed to seep out of him, leaving a tingling sensation behind. He gasped audibly as an image filled his head.

"Are you okay!? Jason heard himself say in alarm.

The scene materialized before him. Somehow he knew it was a memory.

"Are you okay?" The Jason in the memory asked.

"Yeah. I'm fine. It hurts a little, but that's fine." Memory Elliana said.

"What happened? Your mom just called Emily, but she was with Rebecca, and Rebecca told me, and I don't even know what happened." Memory Jason said in one breath.

"It's alright." Memory Elliana giggled. "I... um... fell down the stairs."

"You what!?"

"I tripped, and uh... My mom brought me here. But I'm going to be fine." Memory Elliana said.

"What'll happen to you?" Memory Jason asked.

"I'll have to wear a cast for a while. On my arm. Because I... uh... broke it."

"You broke your arm?" Memory Jason asked.

"Yes. But... it's fine. I'm good. It doesn't even hurt."

"Are you sure?"

"Yep. A okay."

Memory Jason leaned down and hugged Elliana tight. "You had me worried."

Memory Elliana blushed. "Sorry." She said, hugging him back with one arm.

Then the real Jason was back in the clearing, on the rock with Elliana.

"What happened?" The real Elliana asked.

"Um... I don't know. I think I was in a memory." Jason admitted.

"What happened in the memory?" Elliana asked.

"You were in a hospital. You broke your arm."

Elliana flashed a stunning smile. Goosebumps erupted across Jason's arms.

"You remember that?" She asked.

For some reason, Jason could only nod.

Elliana's smile grew, and something washed over Jason. He knew how much the old Jason had loved her, and he guessed he was feeling that now. It was a nice feeling. But it scared Jason. He didn't even know who he was. How could he be in love?

Well, Elliana was nice...

And she clearly liked Jason...

And she had that perfect smile...

And she-

"RYAN!" Someone screamed.

A/N OMG this is the shortest chapter EVER!!!! I'm so sorry! I'm kinda having an existential crisis, and I just really wanted to get something out for you guys! By the way, I was looking at my stats on the first book of Elliana and Jason's adventure, the pond of flowers, and OHMYGOSH. I have fifty percent of readers in the US (I live in Canada), 68 reads, four engaged readers and three votes per chapter!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!! Thank you guys SOOO much! I promise, more longer chapters coming soon.

Also, my English teacher wanted me to credit him on this chapter. He was walking around the class and saw that I was on a google doc (which is where I write this book), but our assignment was on google slides. So he was like "What are you writing?????" And I was like "Um... my book. I finished the assignment." And he was like "You're writing a book?" And I was like "Um... yes?" And he was like "Are you gonna credit me on it?" And I was like "uM oKaY". Not sure this is what he meant, but um...
