Mitch Grassi paced by the window but paused to stare outside. A sigh left his mouth as his eyes clouded with tears. His mind raced as he stood by the window, tears streaming down his face. Mitch's attention was drawn away from his own thoughts when he heard his friend Kirstin Maldonado crying. He turned around and sighed in sadness as he saw how troubled his friend was. He breathed: "I'm sorry, Kirstie." Unable to watch Kirstin be that upset, he watched with dread as Scott Hoying talked with the police chief. His friend's voice was thick with distress and sorrow.
Scott Hoying: Sir, have you found a clue or anything?
His blue eyes flicked to Kirstin, who was trembling on the couch. She was gripping a picture of their friend Kailyn Hale, who had been taken by Jessica Peterson. Scott sighed wearily as he watched his friend mourn. They didn't want to believe that Kailyn was dead, but finding the hope needed to move forward was difficult. Kirstin had been up every night due to nightmares that she's had. Scott's hope was slowly draining, and it drained faster as he watched his friend tremble and cry as she gripped the picture, refusing to let it go as if she was scared that if she dropped the picture, they would never find Kailyn. The police chief softly cleared his throat as if to draw Scott's attention back to the question that was just asked by Scott.
Andrew Bennet: I'm sorry, sir, but we haven't found anything besides the blood. I can assure you that we are doing everything within our ability to find and bring her back.
Scott sighed again as his blue eyes flicked to Mitch, pacing in front of the window. Kailyn had gone missing on Mitch's birthday, and he had been the one to find out that she was gone. Scott blamed himself partially because he had convinced Mitch that Kailyn would be fine after she went into the house to retrieve something. He wondered what she had gone to get, but the grief made it hard to be curious. They had only known Kailyn since January, but so much had happened during the last several months that he had grown close to her. Scott watched as Kirstin shuddered and dropped the picture on accident. She cried in agony and didn't bother to pick up the picture. Mitch rushed over to his friend and pulled her trembling body into him. His brown eyes filled with tears as he gently picked the photo up and opened Kirstin's hand to place it in her hand. She refused to close her fingers as tears streamed from her clouded brown eyes. Mitch sighed and rubbed her back gently as he held her close.
Mitch: Scott, she's not doing good. She's not even taking the picture back.
Scott: I'll be right there, Mitch. I got to ask something.
Mitch: Scott Hoying, we can't sacrifice Kirstin for Kailyn. I want to find her as much as you do, but I don't want to lose Kirstin. She needs you more than she needs me. I can't be much help, and I haven't been.
Scott: Mitch, I understand. I just need to ask this now, or else we might lose the rest of our hope. It seems as if that Legacy Tour is going to happen if we don't do anything soon.
Mitch turned his attention back to Kirstin, who had buried her face in his chest. With a weary sigh, Scott turned back to the police chief.
Scott: Chief Bennet, I have a request.
Chief Bennet: What might that request be, sir?
Scott: It would make me and Mitch feel better if we gathered a group of friends to help the search. We want to help. It might just help Kirstin from losing all of her hope.
The chief was quiet for several heartbeats, and the cabin was quiet apart from Kirstin's cries. Scott turned his head away and angrily wiped his tears. When Scott looked back, Mitch was looking at him with concern in his brown eyes.
Mitch: Scott, are you okay?
Scott: I'm fine, Mitch.
He straightened himself up and waited for the chief to give him an answer. When Chief Bennet finally spoke, his voice was sympathetic as he responded.
