Scott shut the trunk after loading the car. He looked up when he saw Mitch helping Kirstin, who was limping heavily. Immediately, he rushed over to her as she got into the back seat.
Scott: You sure that you're going to be okay back here?
Kirstin: Of course. Just a little sore from where I slept last night.
Scott: Are you positive that you want to come with us?
Kirstin: Scott, I understand that there may possibly be nothing, but I don't want to stay here and do nothing. I want to help, Scott. Why can't you see that?
Scott: I don't want you getting hurt or killed trying to help.
Kirstin: Scott Hoying, if Kailyn is threatened when we find her. I will protect her. I love her as my own daughter; I am going to treat and protect her as such. You are not going to change my mind, Scott. You know that.
Scott just sighed and gently shut the door. He glanced at the door, waiting for Mitch to get back out. Scott realized that his friend would struggle with leaving as if he didn't know if they would find anything. Was Mitch that upset that he's given up? Scott wearily sighed as he went to see what Mitch was doing. He believed that there was still hope, but Mitch insisted that there was none. When Scott reached the door, Mitch opened it.
Scott: You ready?
Mitch: I guess.
His voice was not his usual tone, and Scott knew why: He was trying to contain his grief. It ached Scott seeing his friend that upset, but he just sighed and walked to the car. He turned to Mitch and smiled softly at him as if trying to get his friend to lighten up.
Scott: Want me to drive to Northern Kentucky?
Mitch: It doesn't matter, Scott.
Kirstin happened to hear Mitch's statement and opened the door. She got out to look at Mitch.
Mitch: What, Kirstin?
Kirstin: Mitch, you sound as if Kailyn's dead, which she's not. So lighten up, and let's have a fun trip. We can make it fun if we want to. You never know what we are going to find, and besides, Kailyn isn't dead; she's alive. Just get in the car and lighten up, please. You won't help the situation if you believe and convince yourself that she's dead. I won't let you do that; I love you too much to allow that.
Mitch: But Kirstin...
His voice trailed off when he saw that Kirstin wasn't playing around. She was serious that she wouldn't let Mitch believe there was no hope left in this search. Scott just smiled at Mitch as he went to get into the car. Mitch sighed, defeated before he got into the car.
Scott: Northern Kentucky, here we come!
Kirstin: Thank you, Scott.
Scott: Thank me for what, Kirstie?
Kirstin: For letting me come.
Mitch: We couldn't let you stay here alone when we are hours away.
Kirstin rolled her eyes as if she was annoyed by him acting that the search was turning hopeless. When she spoke, her voice was stern, and she almost glared at Mitch.
Kirstin: Mitch Grassi, would you stop? It's not doing any good to this search that there is, in fact, hope when you keep insisting that there isn't any hope. I don't believe that she's dead, and we are going to find her alive.
Mitch: Kirstin, why are you and Scott sugar-coating it? We all know that Jessica will kill Kailyn before you can say 'Pentatonix' you know that, so why are you ignoring it?
