«People are greedy, thoughtless and prone to immoderate exaggeration.

On holidays, this fact progresses beyond its limits.

Just look at how people crawl out of their holes en masse and clean out all the stores. Dozens of food items and everyday utensils are bought as if they assumed they would starve in a single day. That refrigerators and expiration dates lose meaning when stores close their doors for a single meaningless day. One would almost think that an apocalypse would break out.

The human species considers itself intelligent and superior, but let's face it - we are nothing more than the lowest layer of the universe. We wouldn't get anything remotely right if we didn't shape our environment to our liking. Even animals evolve, revolutionize themselves according to their environment in order to survive. But humans don't seem to need this because we like to destroy our nature so that we can survive even one day.

We are a species that is destroying itself and for this reason the Purge was created.

Since we can no longer extract anything from the earth because we have greatly decimated our natural environment and humanity is reproducing more horribly than rats, the economy is going down. We don't have enough money to feed every individual, so we set aside one day a year to rid the world of this plague. To cleanse it of humankind.»

The giant screen, attached to one of Seoul's largest buildings, flickered briefly due to overload. Thousands of people stood in the streets and stretched their necks in the air, spellbound, so as not to miss any of it. For a moment, they had forgotten even the huge excitement around them.

The sovereign-looking newscaster turned away from the speaker and now looked into the camera again with a forced smile.

"That was our statement today from the famous critic Kang Bonhwa and his opinion in relation to the Purge." The newscaster wrinkled her nose, it was clear that she didn't give any importance to this speech. "However, we can't ignore the fact that the Purge has brought us a lot of good, after all, we were able to negotiate an agreement with North Korea two years ago."

«The unification between North and South Korea only served to bend to the will of the European Union. The unified Korea, as we call it today, is nothing but a farce to justify killing people. To indulge in our sadistic nature and make facilities like psychiatric hospitals and prisons harmless. We save masses of money when we no longer have to spend resources on these facilities.»

The woman shook her head as if annoyed that the critic always had to have an answer ready.

On a small, separate screen, footage of the first Korean Purge was shown. Homeless people being beaten, tortured, and ultimately stabbed to death by masked strangers. Small stores mowed down along with terrified owners. More and more people on the streets stopped and watched the spectacle on the screen. Low murmurs and whispers went through the crowd as they watched the violent scenes. Some viewers seemed outraged by the critic's opinion, while others nodded in agreement in horror.
