Classical music played a quiet tone throughout the house, enveloping the secured building in a pleasant, harmonious atmosphere.
No noise entered the Kim family home from the outside.
And from the outside, no gunshots penetrated the house where the Kim family was staying.
They were all completely safe that night. From the purgers and from their fate.
The family sat together at the dining table, enjoying their feast. Cutlery clinked, soft eating noises filled the room, mingling with the music. Kim Jongin hated the silence that reigned at the table, accompanied only by small sounds. The table was beautifully set, with a few petals adorning the white tablecloth. The clashing of cutlery and the chewing of his seat neighbors reached Jongin's ears and he cleared his throat briefly.
Immediately everyone looked up into his face, the soft face of a young man. A young man who was always under the pleasure of money. He felt comfortable in his skin, in this white shirt, the tight black jeans, which fit him like a glove. He usually felt comfortable with that flawless face, sensual eyes and full lips.
But something seemed different today.
Today he didn't feel as comfortable as usual.
He was not afraid of this night, because he thought that the Purge was a healing idea of the state. Healing for mankind. At least that's how his mother had preached it constantly, until he had also adopted this opinion. "Is everything all right, Kai?" his mother Kim Aeseung asked, sweetly using her only son's nickname. The latter nodded mutely, forcing a smile onto his plump lips. His girlfriend next to him, also gave him a slightly questioning look. He could feel her hand below the table on his knee, so he gave the dark-haired Korean a quick glance.
A comforting sigh came from his mother as the master of the house sat silently in his large armchair. He had the cozy feeling written all over his face and looked a little pale. "I hope it tastes good, the meat was brought all the way from Italy."
"It tastes quite delicious, darling," Kim Jonghyun, Kai's father, agreed. He poked the meat a bit with his chopstick, then leaned back in the big armchair.
"To celebrate, of course, I wanted to give my loved ones a good meal."
"Thank you very much, Mrs. Kim," Kai's firm friend said shyly, earning an approving nod from Kai's mother. Kim Aeseung was a tall, serious woman with very angular features. Sharp eyes with which she kept everything in view and pointed lips to keep the household on its toes. Surprisingly, she was more than happy with his current girlfriend, but Kai had realized that it could be because she followed his mother to the letter and they were very similar in character. He should have been more concerned about that, but he loved her. And as long as his mother was happy with her, so was Kai.
