TW: Tobacco use

5 am

The sun was beginning to rise over the city, the streets beginning to fill with life.

You sighed and pulled out your cigarettes, lighting one between your lips. You took a puff and inhaled it to your lungs, slowly letting it out. You watched the smoke rise until it dissipated with the wind.

"I didn't know you smoked." Bucky said.

You jumped and turned around.

"Shit, you scared me." You said.

"Sorry." Bucky replied sheepishly.

"No worries. I do, but not around people. I can put it out." You said.

"That's okay. I smoke sometimes too." Bucky said.

"I don't usually offer, but want one?" You asked.

Bucky nodded and took one from your pack.

"You got a light?" He asked.

You nodded and walked over to him, holding your lighter to the end. You held your breath as Bucky leaned in to light it.

"Thanks, doll." Bucky said, taking a puff.

You nodded and flipped your lighter closed.

"What are you doing up?" Bucky asked.

"Oh, you know. The usual early morning contemplation." You said.

Bucky nodded.

"Nightmares?" You asked.

"Mhm." Bucky said in between puffs.

You held you cigarette between your two fingers, resting it at your side.

"You know, in Germany we had to hold the cigarette between our two fingers instead of in them." Bucky said.

"Oh, really?" You asked.

Bucky nodded.

"Huh. I never thought about that." You said.

Bucky grinned.

"Now you will. Feel free to include me in the thought though, doll. I love to be included." He said.

You laughed.

"You truly are the only person who knows how to cheer me up." You said.

"Well, thanks for that." He said.

You nodded.

"It's kind of cold out." Bucky said.

"Yeah. I'm thinking about going inside, but it's quiet out." You said.

"I'll be right back. Hold this." Bucky said, gesturing to his cigarette.

You grinned and took it between your lips.

"That's one way to do it." Bucky said, laughing.

He headed inside, shutting the door behind him. You looked to the sky and sighed again.

Bucky walked back out with a jacket on and blanket in hand. You smiled and handed him his cigarette.

"I brought the blanket for you." Bucky said.

You smiled and took it.

"Come here." You said, patting the space beside you.

Bucky walked over and sat next to you and you wrapped the blanket across his shoulders.

"Thanks, doll." Bucky said.

You smiled and took a puff of your cigarette. The smoke burned your throat, but the exhale cooled your lungs.

"I like mornings like this." Bucky said.

"Me too." You said.

"Is it wrong that it's because I'm with you?" Bucky asked.

"No, but what do you mean by that?" You asked.

Bucky shrugged.

"I like you, Buck. I like you a lot." You said.

"I like you too." He said softly.

You leaned your head on his chest and took out your phone.

"Smile." You said.

Bucky smiled at the camera and you took a picture. You tapped on the image and smiled.

"It's cute." Bucky said.

You laughed.

"What's the team gonna think?" You asked.

"Are you kidding? Half of them expected this." He said.

"So does that mean we're together? Sorry, I need a lot of reassurance to solidify something." You said.

"No need to apologize. Yes, if you'll have me." He said.

"Of course." You said.

Bucky smiled.

"Do you think we could just stay out here forever in this moment?" You asked.

"If we could, yes." Bucky said.

He laughed.

"But it's freezing and I want hot chocolate." He said.

You laughed.

"Want me to make some peppermint hot chocolate?" You asked.

"Absolutely." He said.

You put out your cigarette and stood up. Bucky followed you inside to the kitchen. You rummaged through the cabinets for candy canes and hot chocolate mix.

"There they are." You said.

You took out the hot chocolate mix and candy canes and set them on the counter. You grabbed a pot and set it to warm on the stove. You poured milk in the pot and mixed in the chocolate and a candy cane, leaving it to boil.

When the mix had boiled, you poured it in two mugs, giving the larger portion to Bucky. You watched as he took a sip and smiled.

"Just what I needed. Thanks, doll." He said.

"Of course." You said.

You laughed out loud as a thought popped in your head.

"What are you so giggly about?" He asked.

"When I first met you I thought you'd be a strict black coffee kind of person, but you're totally a hot chocolate with extra whipped cream kind of person." You said.

Bucky laughed.

"You say the darndest things sometimes." He said.

"It's what I'm best at." You said.

Bucky smiled.

"You're adorable." He said.

You hid your smile behind your mug.

"So are you." You said.

Bucky blushed and smiled.

"Let's watch a movie." You said.

Bucky followed you over to the couch and sat down. You cuddled close to him and put on the nightmare before Christmas.

And that's how you spent the rest of the morning, drinking hot cocoa and watching movies.
