Early Lunch

Taking the pills worked to help me sleep the rest of the day. Madison woke me up late into the evening with food. She wanted to talk but I told her I wasn't feeling good and I didn't want to talk. She didn't push it but she also didn't seem like she believed me too much.

I waited until I knew Christian would be in meetings to follow through with my plan. I asked Madison to get me something to eat before I got ready.

I grabbed two outfits and folded them up on the bed. I set my pain meds on top of them before grabbing my shoes. I slipped my left shoe on then slid my other shoe under the bed to hide it. Christian would find out that I left sooner or later but I wanted it to take him a little while before he came looking for me. If he did, that is.

I scooped up my belongings, or rather Madison's, and got to my feet. My ankle hurt but not too bad since I'd taken some medicine before Madison left. I just hoped it worked but didn't refrain me from driving.

I limped out of the bedroom and headed to the door. I took a deep breath before I opened the door. The guards on either side of the door looked over at me, seemingly surprised that I was leaving.

I smiled at them as best as I could. "Christian told me I could meet him in his office. We're going to have an early lunch."

They nodded in unison.

I turned to them before I started down the hall. "Oh, and can you not tell him I'm on my way? I want to surprise him."

"Yes, ma'am."

I bit the inside of my cheek as I started walking down the hall. I did my best to stay hidden as I made my way through the mansion. I struggled to remember where I was going but I managed to find the front doors.

It felt too easy to get out without anyone seeing me. There had to be something going on. Yet... I didn't care enough to find out. I wanted to get as far away from Christian and Twisp as I could before I could even give myself a chance to think about all the things that could go wrong.

I looked up at the sky as I walked out the doors. The clouds overhead were dark and scary looking and were moving in fast. I didn't like driving in the rain but it was better than being stuck with Christian. Anything was better than that.

I walked down the steps and approached one of the town cars. I found one that was unattended and opened the driver's door. I glanced around before I shut the door. I locked the doors and tossed my stuff onto the passenger seat. I looked around for the keys to the car and found them hiding, in plain sight, in the visor. I started the car and quickly put it into drive. One of the drivers peaked his head out of another car as I passed him. I could only hope that he wouldn't tell Christian.

It wasn't until I was away from the mansion and on a fairly deserted road that I allowed myself to breathe. My chest felt lighter and I felt like I could think better. My hands were still shaking and my eyes were still filled with tears but it was a relief to finally be free.

I looked at the dash and tapped the screen to load up the GPS system. I typed in my address and waited for instructions to load onto the screen. It was going to take days to get back home but I was willing to do it.

I turned on the radio and turned the volume up loud as I tried to drown out the sound of my crying. I couldn't have been any happier to leave. I needed to get back home and try to fix everything that Christian had ruined.

I made it several hours before my stomach started growling and my ankle started to hurt again. I knew I couldn't keep taking the pain meds on an empty stomach. I pulled off somewhere in Idaho in hopes to come up with a plan for getting something to eat.

I hadn't brought any money with me. All of my stuff was somewhere at the mansion. Even Christian wouldn't tell me where it was.

I opened up the compartments in the front, hoping there might be some money stashed away. The middle console was bare but the glove compartment was nearly full. I riffled through several receipts and insurance papers on the car before I found a black credit card. It was wedged under all of the papers and hidden in the back of the glove compartment. It was a good hiding spot unless you were really looking for it. I couldn't believe someone was dumb enough to leave it in the car. Almost like they wanted someone to find it.

But that didn't matter. I had more important things to worry about than why a card was left in the car.

I loaded the GPS up again and searched for the closest fast-food restaurant. I didn't care what it was as long as they had food and would accept the card. After all, it was stolen.

I wasn't too far from a Chick-Fil-A. It was nice to know I could get the same food I had at home on the other side of the country.

I rested my head on my hand as my arm was propped up on the window ledge. I'd been driving a while yet I was only a state away. It was going to take me forever to get back home.

Fucking Christian.

It was all his fault.
