I wasn't used to hanging out with friends much less shopping for lingerie so I wasn't so sure about how the evening would go with Harmony. She was nice and sweet which made me feel better about spending time with her.
I waited beside her as she locked up her store. She said she was never very busy over the holiday season save for a few desperate spouses who needed flowers for their significant other so she closed to spend time with her children.
One of the guards waited with us. He stood a few feet away from us but he watched our every move. It was a little unnerving.
"I don't know how that doesn't make you uncomfortable." I said quietly, hoping the man wouldn't overhear me. He didn't appear to be a bad guy but I also didn't want to offend him.
"I don't usually have someone following me around."
I raised an eyebrow. "You don't?"
She shook her head. "Not usually. Most of the time Zeke meets me here when I'm closing up. If he can't make it, he has someone keep an eye on me just in case. The only time anyone ever follows us is when we're around Christian. I suppose that will be the same for you now, too."
Even that seemed excessive. I knew it was going to take a long time before I was comfortable with a guard being nearby every time I left the mansion.
I tried to keep my confusion off of my face as Harmony turned to me. She stuck her keys into her jacket pocket and began walking toward a nearby store.
"Maria can help us find the right set."
I groaned. "Do we have to get anyone else involved in this?"
She laughed. "I'm sure she'll be excited to help you. Especially when she knows it's for Christian."
"Do we have to tell her that part?" I was already embarrassed enough about buying lingerie. I hated even mentioning that I'd be wearing it around Christian. I knew it'd embarrass him.
"She already knows you're his mate. Pretty much everyone in town knows."
I felt like I was in high school and a secret of mine was being spread through the school. I knew being Christian's mate wasn't a bad thing but I was sure people knowing about me was bound to draw negative attention.
"Listen, if anything, people are jealous of you."
"Jealous of me?"
"Yeah. You're the Luna. That means something around here. Plus, you're Christian's mate. He's an Alpha and he's attractive. That's plenty of reason to be envious of you."
"I don't like all of this attention. I like being the girl that no one knows or talks to."
"Doesn't that get lonely sometimes?"
I shrugged. Sometimes I did wish I had friends to spend time with or things to do other than watch TV with my aunt or read a book alone in my bedroom. Meeting people in Twisp made me realize I did like the company that friends provided.
Harmony grabbed my arm and pulled me into a store. There was a pink neon sign that read 'Just A Peak' hanging on the wall as we entered the store. The walls were a light tan color that seemed plain but actually complimented the clothing that hung from the wall nicely. Various racks were spaced throughout the store with different colors and types of apparel.
"Start looking. I'm going to go talk to Maria and see what she would recommend."
I nodded. I had no idea where to start. Lingerie wasn't my thing at all. I had no experience with it so I wasn't sure what would look good on me.
