Breakfast

"Do we have to have breakfast with your whole family?" I asked in a hushed tone as we headed through the halls of the large mansion.

"I haven't introduced you to my family yet and I think they know they're the last to meet you." Christian walked alongside me as we headed toward the dining hall for breakfast. Christian planned a large meeting with his family for breakfast so they could meet me. I guess he figured Christmas morning was the best time as most of the staff would be with their families so it would leave for more family time alone.

But I was nervous as hell about meeting people who were so important. And it wasn't just that they were Christian's family that worried me. They were important people in the werewolf world and the pack as a whole. I had to impress them enough that they would trust me to be with Christian and be the Luna for the pack.

It was a daunting task that I wasn't sure I was ready for.

"Yeah, because it's scary."

He shook his head. "It's not going to be scary."

"You've met your aunt. If she's that bad, I can't imagine how much worse the rest of your family could be."

Christian stopped me in the hallway and put his hands on my shoulders. "Relax, Blair. I can promise you things will be fine."

"How?"

"Because I'm the alpha. You don't have to worry when you're with me." His words should have been reassuring but I wasn't so convinced.

I glanced at the door to the dining hall. I'd only ever eaten there when no one else was in there. I wasn't sure exactly how many people would be there for this breakfast.

Christian's hand turned my attention back onto him and made me focus on him. "Let me do the worrying." His lips met mine and he kept me there for several seconds. We probably would have stayed there longer had we not been interrupted.

"Are you going to join us? We've already been waiting quite a while."

Looking toward the door, we saw Christian's aunt, Patricia, standing in the doorway of the dining hall. She had her arms crossed over her chest and a sour look on her face.

Christian cleared his throat and took a step back from me. "Sorry. We were just about to head in."

"It didn't look like that to me."

Christian met her hateful stare and held it. He didn't have the same level of hostility in his eyes as she did but it was certainly close to it.

I was surprised that she was the one to break it. She turned on her heel without another word and walked back into the dining hall.

I took a deep breath. If the rest of his family was like her, I was going to have a rough life ahead of me. And that was certainly saying something.

Christian took my hand and squeezed it. I wanted to believe things were going to go well but I wasn't too convinced.

He led me into the dining hall where several members of his family were seated at one end of the large table. A man sat beside Patricia who looked similar to Christian but was a lot older and more wrinkled. To Patricia's right was an open seat at the head of the table as well as one to the right of that chair. Beside that empty chair, sat Christian's father, Felix.

He gave us a warm smile as we entered the room and headed for the empty seats. Apparently, Christian got the head of the table.

I tried my best to come across as welcoming but I was nervous beyond belief. I sat down beside Christian and folded my hands together in my lap to stop them from shaking.
