Here's a little treat for you just before thanksgiving. I won't be able to post until after the weekend so enjoy this chapter and check out some of my other stories as well! Happy holidays!

It was a lot harder to get comfortable when my ankle still hurt. Every move I made left me feeling uncomfortable and each new position was worse than the last. It seemed like nothing I did would make it feel better.

So when Christian woke me up the next morning, I was, understandably, aggravated.

"What do you want?"

He chuckled. "My father is here. If you don't want to get any pain meds, I can tell him to leave-"

I shook my head. "I just need a minute."

"To wake up?"

"Shut up." I grabbed the heels of my hands and rubbed them against my eyes. I sat up and pushed the blanket to the side.

As I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, Christian put his hands on either side of the bed around me, trapping me in place. "Don't even think about it?"

"What?"

"Standing. I'm putting my foot down this time. I'm not even going to give you a chance."

I rolled my eyes. "Relax. I wasn't going to."

He was so annoying.

He slid his arm around my back and the other under my knees so he could lift me up.

I turned my face into his chest as I felt a sharp pain in my leg. If the pain meds didn't work, I knew I was done for. I could barely handle the pain up to that point and I knew it would only get worse.

Christian was quiet as he carried me from the room. The hallways were empty aside from the guards at the door. We didn't pass a single person as we went down the steps and headed to see his father.

The area was quiet and dimly lit. The only light I saw came from a small office. Christian's father, Felix, stepped out of the room and pulled the door so it was nearly shut.

"Good morning. Let's go to room one." He took the lead and entered the first room in the hallway. He flipped the lights on as he entered and I squinted. The light was too bright for how early it was and how badly I felt.

Christian set me down on the bed and helped me rest my leg gently on the padded surface.

Felix pulled a chair over and sat at my feet. He looked up at me when he spoke. "Christian said your injury is causing you some discomfort."

I nodded.

"Can you rate your pain for me on a scale from one to ten?"

"Lately, it's been a nine unless I bump my leg or move it too much. Then it's a ten."

He nodded. "I'd like to take a look at your ankle if you don't mind."

I didn't want to agree but it needed to be looked at. I bit my lip as he began unstrapping and loosening my boot. He slowly pulled it off of me in a similar fashion to how Christian had done it the night prior.

He lightly ran his fingers over my skin to determine the severity of my break. We already knew it was broken but it was nice to at least see if it was healing at all. I knew a week wasn't much time but it still had to be something. Any progress was good for me because it meant I could go home sooner.

"I believe you're not healing as expected. I'll give you some pain medication to help but I suggest you continue to keep off of it until the pain has gone away on its own."

I groaned. That wasn't the answer I wanted to hear.

He looked up at Christian. "I suggest you keep an eye on her. Walking on her ankle right now isn't a good idea."

He crossed his arms over his chest. "Believe me, I've tried to tell her. She just doesn't want to listen."

I glared at him. "I don't have to listen to you."

"Her ankle won't heal if she's using it. I know you're busy but try to keep an eye on her." Felix either didn't want to hear our bickering or didn't care.

I didn't like the thought of being babysat. I wasn't someone who needed to be watched. Aside from living with my aunt, I was a fully independent adult who didn't need anyone to help me. It felt like all of that was being wiped away the longer I was with Christian.

It was just another reason to want to go home.

Felix handed me an orange bottle with a white label wrapped around it. "Take two of these every six hours. If this doesn't help, give me a call."

I stared down at the label. It wasn't the strongest medication but it was better than ordinary Tylenol. Hopefully, it would help to ease the pain so I could start healing. I desperately needed to get out of Twisp.

"Keep me updated." He spoke with Christian before he left the two of us alone in the room.

Christian started wrapping my leg back up in the brace as he knelt in front of me. "Let me take you back upstairs so you can get some rest."

I glared down at him. I hated being treated like a child just because I couldn't walk. It was like all my decisions were being made for me and I had to just suck it up and deal with it.

He slid his arms under me and stood up. "I'll have Zeke come up to the room so we can work. I want to stay close in case you need anything."

Great. Just when I wanted to get some rest, I had to deal with Zeke and Christian lingering nearby.

He passed the guards standing outside the room and carried me into the bedroom. He helped me into bed and headed for the bathroom. I wasn't sure what he was doing until he walked back with a glass of water in his hand.

I took it from him without saying anything and swallowed two of the large white pills. I set both on the nightstand before I settled into bed. Maybe it would help me fall asleep and ignore the fact that both he and Zeke would be in the next room over.

I really missed Madison.

"Do you need anything else?"

"No."

"I'll be right out here if you need anything."

I pulled the blanket up so I was practically hidden and tried my hardest to go to sleep. If it was the only thing I could do to escape, I was going to keep doing it until my ankle healed.
