Plan

"So you don't have a plan," Madison said.

I sighed. "We don't know if Felix is still at the hospital or not. We need to figure out a way to take care of him. I'm not sure if Christian would want him arrested for his crimes against the pack or if he'd want him dead. I don't want to make that decision for him when he isn't able to tell us what he's thinking."

"What happened with Christian?" Madison took a sip of the lemonade she was drinking.

"Everett came back. He nearly killed us. Christian is... he's..."

Harmony took a deep breath. "Christian's still recovering. Zeke is staying with him to keep him protected. That's why we're here."

"I'm so sorry to hear about Christian. He's a good man," Mrs. Frey said.

I nodded. "Thank you."

"He helped us with our bills and the funeral cost when my husband passed. We didn't have to pay a dime thanks to his generosity. Yours, too, I suppose."

I looked over at Madison. She seemed visibly uncomfortable. Clearly, she didn't like talking about her dad since his passing. "I didn't know your dad passed. I'm so sorry."

"Christian does a lot for the pack. It wouldn't be the same without him." Harmony changed the subject. She looked down at her phone and raised her eyebrows. "Zeke said Felix hasn't been around. I assume that means he left the hospital."

I felt a pit grow in my stomach. I didn't like thinking Felix was after us. "So he's trying to find us?"

Harmony frowned. "It's possible. Maybe he's hoping that he can hurt you so that you and Christian can't be in charge of the pack and he can take over."

My brows furrowed. "Why would he want to take over? Is he even physically able to be Alpha?"

Madison shook her head. "He's a good doctor but he can't be Alpha. Are we sure this isn't his way of giving Everett the position?"

I shook my head. "No, I saw Everett die. There's no way he's trying to hand over the Alpha title."

Madison looked at Harmony and then back at me. "Crazier things have happened. Maybe we should go looking for his body to make sure."

"We have bigger fish to fry," Harmony said.

I nodded. "As much as I'd like to, just for the comfort, I can't do that when Felix is either coming after us or trying to hurt Christian."

"We have to do something. We're just sitting ducks here."

I sighed. There were a lot of problems that needed to be dealt with. In all honesty, I wanted to just forget about them and spend my time with Christian. I hated being away from him knowing the vulnerable state he was in. Sure, Zeke was there to protect him but it didn't feel like enough. I wanted to be there.

I hated being so important sometimes.

Harmony rubbed my arm. Her brows were furrowed and worry lines marked her forehead. "We'll get through this, Blair. Take it one thing at a time."

Before any of us could say anything more, someone knocked on the front door.

I looked between Madison and her mom. Both of them looked about as confused as I felt.

Madison shrugged.

Her mom got to her feet. "I'm not expecting anyone." She walked over to the door and looked through the peephole. She quickly backed away from the door and her eyes raised significantly. "It's him!"

Harmony and I stood at the same time. Panic set in and I felt frozen in my fear. What was I supposed to do? He caught us. There was nowhere to hide.

Harmony grabbed my arms and forced me to look at her. "Go hide. Find a closet and shrink yourself as much as possible."

"What are you-"

"Go! We'll come get you when it's clear."

I felt my chest tighten but I couldn't stand there any longer. I quickly ran down the small hallway and entered the first room I could find. I shut the door behind me and turned to see I was in what looked like Madison's room. It was fairly basic. She had a small bed pushed up against a wall with a window above it. There was a framed picture of her, her mom, and her dad that sat on the windowsill. She had a desk with some makeup products on the top. There wasn't much to the room and I couldn't tell if that's how she wanted it or if she wasn't able to do more with it.

I frowned but quickly shook off the moment and ran to the closet to my right. I moved a basket of dirty clothes and climbed into the corner. I pulled a T-shirt over my head so it would hide me even more.

Out in the living room, I heard the door open.

"Hello, Mrs. Frey. It's good to see you again." Felix's voice was light. He was trying to be charming so he could win Mrs. Frey over. He wanted her to give me up.

Mrs. Frey laughed. Surprisingly, it didn't sound like a nervous laugh. "Hello, Mr. Dawson. I wasn't expecting to see you."

"I thought maybe Mrs. Yearwood would have told you about the current situation."

Harmony didn't miss a beat. She didn't even sound nervous. "One crisis at a time. I'm just trying to do my part to check in with the pack members. I heard of Mr. Frey's passing and I wanted to check that Mrs. Frey and her daughter were doing well."

"Isn't that the Luna's job?"

"Oh, it certainly is. But Blair is still getting acquainted with everyone in the pack so I offered to assist her. It's not really fair to throw her to the wolves without any protection, wouldn't you agree?"

Felix cleared his throat. "I suppose you're right. Would you by any chance happen to know Blair's whereabouts? She isn't at the hospital and I'd like to speak with her about my son."

"Blair knows better than to show up here. After they fired me, I didn't want to see or hear from Blair or Christian. Your best bet is to look on the other side of town where I told her to stay." Madison was quick to interject. Even though it made me sad to hear her talk that way, it wasn't a complete lie.

Felix seemed apprehensive. "Right. Well, when you see her next, please, let her know I'm looking for her."

"I'm not sure that I'll see her anytime soon but I'll let her know you're looking for her." She was really laying it on thick. Thanks, Madison.

The door opened and then shut and I sighed in relief. My cover was safe for the time being but I wasn't sure how long it would last. I really needed to come up with a plan.

And fast.
