Prologue: Before the storm

Alyson was always the more laid-back of the Parker siblings, she wasn't as smart as Peter was with science and biophysics but she credited herself on other things; her sense of humor, her overwhelming sense of curiosity that got her into semi-dangerous situations, and her fearlessness. The latter her brother thought was more of a burden than anything.

Throughout Alyson's life there had been tragedy over tragedy but she had a way of turning that pain that escalated throughout her body into fearlessness, she wouldn't let anything stand in the path of what she wanted, the pain just helped her move forwards in times of doubt.

That terrified Peter because he knew that's what always landed his sister in trouble, after their uncle Ben died they started looking into their father's research. Peter would read through it and try to uncover their family secrets whilst Alyson kept a lookout.

One day in particular May had caught Peter trying to sneak out, whilst she questioned the non-super-powered 14-year-old boy, Alyson had crept past them shooting her brother a shrug before she jumped out onto the fire escape.

They lived with their aunt, May Parker, who felt more like a sister to Alyson but she quickly had to adapt to the role of mother.

Aly was 17 and still in high school, but she spent more time in detention than she did in any lesson.

Aly snuck around the back of the lab where her father used to work; they had found some of his research hidden deep within the basement.

She opened up the broken window they used to climb in and jumped inside. It was dark, full of cobwebs, and smelt damp; probably hadn't been used in years.

She brushed through countless research papers on spiders and limb regeneration and kicked around a pile of empty beakers with a yawn. Peter would usually not let her touch any of the things down in the lab, he thought it could be toxic or cause a Bruce Banner situation; that only made Aly want to touch it more, she was curious but not stupid she wouldn't purposely inhale or inject something she wasn't supposed to.

She slouched down on a rough-looking desk chair and picked up Peter's notes that he'd left at the table, flicking through them with an eye-roll.

"gibberish, gibberish, that doesn't even look like English" she threw it back down with a sigh, then something caught her eye.

A safe lay broken on the floor, the same one they passed by every time they came in here. Inside it held a couple of research papers, some dead-looking spider eggs, and a little vial of blue liquid.

As she smirked at it she could hear her brother's words in her head.

"Aly, seriously, that looks extremely dangerous just leave it alone."

She shrugged and jumped up towards the safe, kneeling beside it with suspicious eyes. The blue liquid shimmered under her phone's torch, it was mesmerizing.

She picked up the vial to study it closer, it felt warm on her skin, the liquid inside aching to get out. She moved to put it back but yelped as her phone started to ring, it was May.
