Cadence Harper

I didn't realize that it was Topher who I've encountered with in the elevator. I thought I was daydreaming actually. Maybe because of the caffeine I drank and also how much I've missed him.

"I'm actually excited to see the author..." His words were like a melody to me. I swear I'm dreaming that time.

Before I could go on stage, I received a call from Callista. Topher's mother.

"Hey Mrs. Paxton" I greeted as I wore my gold mermaid gown with ruffles on the end. The make up artist started to put on blush on to my face.

"I'm sorry sweetie I can't attend your book party. I have a batch reunion at the same day and I can't refuse it. Don't worry I asked Topher to come there for my sake." I was surprised to hear Topher's name.

"Topher? Wait, He's really here?" I can't believe it.

"Yes, He woke up on the day of his birthday. I didn't want to tell you because you said you were busy." Mrs. Paxton said.

"Oh. My. God." I panicked.

"Don't worry, He's not there to mess you up. I..."

"Uhm, Mrs. Paxton... I think I have to go. I'm experiencing a nervous breakdown." I told her and hung up. I know it was rude but I know Callista will understand. I can't. I can't!

"Ms. Harper, You're up. They're all waiting." The manager of the event announced.

"Uh, Yes I'll be out." I held my chest. I can't breathe. This is not happening. I actually saw Topher. Topher is here!

After a few minutes of calming myself, I walked out of the stage and saw that the room is packed with people. I was shocked to see the press.

The manager of the event gave me a microphone and also a copy of the book. I held the book in my chest and felt the word I wrote her. Surely, Topher already read the book. I hope he's not disappointed about how I teased him in the book.

"Good Afternoon everyone." I greeted. Everyone felt silent as they listen attentively to me. I didn't see Topher in the crowd.

"I just want to thank all of you that had come to this wonderful event as my debut to this book." I started. I don't really know why I'm nervous. I know I practiced well.

"This is really surprising for me. The book, My Career, and all the people who are reading my book." I kept saying stuff that are obvious to all of you.

"So, You met me? I'm the author of this..." I raised the book "wonderful book."

"Though I didn't gave you the ending yet." I told them. "The book ends with the protagonist in coma. Of course, I didn't have time to think of his future. I don't really know what lies ahead."

"Ms Harper, May I ask?" A girl in skirt and long sleeved striped shirt raised her hand. I think she's one of the press. I nod at her. "Who is the protagonist in the story? Yoy said in the blurb of the story that this is based in real life."

"Yes, It is. In fact I truly based it to only one person. The protagonist is my best friend."

I gulped as I saw Topher coming out of view. He is standing at the middle if the crowd.

"He is my best friend that I grew to love." I whispered though they can still hear what I said because of the microphone.

"Is he your boyfriend?" She asked again.

"I want him to be. Unfortunately, No."

"Do you have an ending in mind?"

I started to fidget. How can I answer this?

"I want to end the story with the letter I wrote him before." I told them as I reminisce my words in that letter.

I inhaled deeply and spoke, "Dear Topher..."

I was cut off by a person in the crowd.

"I know you and I are friends. Really close friends. I know it's a little bit surprising but, I think I like you.

Don't freak out. I swear last year I didn't like you. Maybe because I wasn't mature yet to know my feelings. I even had a long time infatuation with this guy and I swear I regret it.

But Topher, I never knew this would happen to me. We are really close and you are hell of a funny guy. I just wish that if you knew, You would feel the same way on me.

Or, You wouldn't freak out and leave me." I looked at the crowd who is reading the letter at his hands. He is reading it outloud. Topher.

"Love, Cades." I finished with my eyes fixated at him. The press started to look at their behind and saw Topher.

"Cades, I'm here" he raised both of his arms.

"Uh..." I breathe under the microphone.

He walked going to the stage and the people from the crowd started to let him pass.

"I can give you an ending." Topher whispered as he stood by in front of me.

"What are you doing here, Topher?"

"I'm here for you." He cupped my face and looked into my eyes. "I talked back after you left you know. I was about to give you a sign but you gave up."

I can't help but feel guilty for not noticing him. For not waiting.

"I'm sorry I was selfish." I heard the people from the crowd squeal but I didn't care.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you before the accident." He spoke.

"Uhm, Are you mad? Because I wrote a book for you."

"I'm mad because you didn't invite the Protagonist to the book party." He joked. I heard more squealing that made me smile.

"I'm sorry again."

He cupped both of my cheeks with his hands. "Stop saying sorry because I have a better ending for your story. Our story."

"What is it?" I felt excited.

"I love you Cadence Harper."
