Adnan turn to look at his friend who was watching him with expectant eyes of a little kid anticipating a trip to go see whether or not dinosaurs exists. He traipsed back to his seat while adjusting his suit, a large scowl settled in between his brows. Did she just say no to him? No, scratch that. Is that how being rejected feels?
Jibril behind him was not following so he asked. "What did she say? Is she coming or are we going to see them? Because I totally won't mind."
"We are going to the mansion to see them. It is going to be brief because I have important meetings in about an hour." Adnan grumbled out taking a hold of his cigarette packet in one hand and phone in the other.
Alim stood up behind his desk seeing his boss' unexpected debutante. He didn't acknowledge neither of the -the secretary beside him on another desk- just left which means there is nothing to be carried out and he wont stay out for long. The refinery from Tokyo needed his attention regarding some pipelines, he won't mess it up.
Adnan entered the backseat along with Jibril then said to Edward, his chauffeur. "To the mansion."
The ride back home was filled with stories from Jibril Shehu who was trying to catch up with his old friend. Adnan on the other hand could only recall what Jannah had said to him on phone like a broken recorder placed in his cranium. She won't see him? The woman that seize more than few opportunities and apertures to get a glimpse of him?
The duo entered the mansion unannounced, he is sure Mallam Sani had told them he's arrived because he values her a lot in that house. Way more than he does him. Well, she is the matriarch that all he wants to do now is strangle her pretty little swan-like neck with his hands. He cannot help being furious when he knew he's got no right after all he has done to her, too much shenanigans.
But to justify his own wrongdoings, he's told her to not try getting close to him but she wouldn't listen. The memory loss had made her as stubborn as a mull, enticing at the same time with little to none shyness the other Jannah had possessed. He would miss this one when she regains her memory which reminds him, they have an appointment with Doctor Abdussalam tomorrow.
The house was quiet, not even Imara's usual squeals could be heard from the living room as she danced to a cartoon song. Adnan's mood lowered again thinking she's left the house.
"Sit here while I go see what they are up to." He tried sounding casual but deep down everything is tangled inside of him, he's got no idea why.
"Take your time, I'm not in a hurry." Jibril stood up from the sofa he sat on and started walking around the room still wearing his shoes on the carpeted floor.
Adnan made his way up the stairs only to stop right before he could climb on the first step as a freshly showered and enthusiastic Imara came bounding down the stairs in denim jeans mini skirt, striped button down ivory shirt and silk scarf around her neck. Her feet are cloaked with cute ivory Yves Saint Laurent brogue, hair tied in the frontal hairdo. He felt something squeeze beneath his pectorals at her adorable gargantuan smile.
A smile crept it's way onto his face as he caught her in his arms. She's eaten food now that she is in the presence of her mother which she refused to do earlier because she was not around. She is as much a mommy's girl like she is daddy's, swinging on both side for her own comfort.
"Dada, back home?" she touched his one day old beard with her hands, playing with single strand that looks longer than the others.
"Yes, darling. Where is your Mama." He asked trying to release his beard from her torturous fingers but she wasn't having it. She kept going after that one hair, maybe it is going to yaw grey by morning.
