Katherine arrived and walked into the house, announcing her presence with a smile.

"Kath!" Alex yelled with a smile, running up to hug her.

"Hey, how are you?" She asked with a laugh, hugging her best friend back.

"Im panic cleaning." She deadpanned.

"Hunny she's freaking out!" Katherine yelled, making Ashton run inside and almost trip.

"What about?" He said, panting.

"Karl." Alex said with a sigh. She went back to her panic cleaning, trying not to over think their get together in just a few hours.

"It's gonna be fine, Lexi." Ashton said with a smile. "Why don't we watch some youtube instead."

"Yeah, alright." She said with a smile. The trio sat on the couch and watched YouTube until Karl texted Alex saying he was on the way to her home. She quickly got up and walked to her room to get dressed into some more comfortable clothes as it was getting dark out.

Alex wore a pair of leggings and a hoodie she's had since high school. She didn't look at the hoodie she put on, just slipped it over her head and walked out into the living room. Alex grabbed her shoes and sat down on the couch to put them on.

"Uh, did you mean to put that hoodie on?" Katherine asked, looking at Alex.

"I just slipped one on, why?"

"That's the hoodie you took from Karl when he left, hun."

"Oh, well i dont give a fuck. He has one of mine anyway and he is here." She finished talking and a moment later there was a knock on her door. "Told you."

"Have fun, tell me all about it when you get back. I love you and be safe."

"I will, i will. I love you guys, please do not destroy my house." Alex said, walking to the door making sure she had everything. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door and smiled at the man that stood in front of it.

"You ready?" He asked with a smile. She nodded, the moment feeling surreal again. They walked outside to Karl's car and got inside. Alex smiled, the entire car smelling of simply Karl Jacobs, something she'd not experienced in such a long time.

"I was thinking we could get some food and then go to like an outlook place to look over the town?" He asked, glancing between her and the road.

"Sounds great, where were you thinking of going?"

"That, Alex, is up to you."

"Uh, i want chicken tenders i wont lie to you."

"Oh my god, were going to Bojangles." Karl said, immediately clicking on his turn signal to go to the restaurant.

"You know, ive lived here for four years and i have never been to Bojangles."

"There's no way, i went in my first week." Karl exclaimed with a smile.

"I havent had the time! I'm usually doing school work or working!" She exclaimed back.

"Good thing we found each other again, you're gonna start making time for good food and adventures." Karl said with a slow shake of his head.

"Don't look so disappointed in me, Nimrod, ive spent more of my time trying to pass my courses than i have eating i think."

"That's not healthy." Karl said, smile dropping some. They pulled up to the drive thru and Karl looked over at Alex with a smile.

"Chicken tenders with fries, extra honey mustard and a coke? Is that still your normal order for literally anywhere?" He asked, voice soft. She nodded with a smile and he turned back around to give them the order. They told him the price and he pulled around, paying and grabbing both drinks and the bag of food. Alex handled the food and drinks while Karl drove off towards his new destination.

"So, how has it been recently?" Alex asked before taking a sip of her soda.

"It's been alright actually. I dropped out of college to take an editing job for Mr Beast's brother. It probably wasn't smartest, but ive wanted to be on that end of the spectrum for such a long time it'd be stupid for me to pass up the opportunity. Ive been here since early July and started actually like being known as a filmer and editor late July. I dont know, im living my best life right now so im not complaining." He said with a smile. "How have you been?"

"Honestly, stressed out. I graduate in a few weeks so everything is like weighing on me. I had to go back home for a few weeks, went down around my birthday came back a few days ago after Lily's birthday. Jesus, she's so big Karl. Im sure you know because she says you call and visit quite often." Alex said with a smile.

"That's not over stepping right? Keeping in contact with her? I just remember you telling me how upset she was and at her age she didnt understand what breakups were and-"

"Karl, it's fine. I literally stayed at your parent's house for a few days before I left to come back here. I call Corry at least once a week and Shawn at least twice a week. Your parents ask for updates once a month at minimum and once a week at most. Trust me, if anyone is over stepping here its me. Im glad she still has that connection with you, even if we couldnt keep contact for a while."

"Why didn't we stay in contact?" Karl asked softly.

"Well, on my end it hurt too much in the beginning. I tried to keep talking to you but i found myself crying every time we were messaging that it hurt less to let our contact slip. Over time it just slipped to birthday and holiday messages and i would have loved to reach out more, but i'd be lying if i said it doesnt hurt still today. Being in this car hurts me, but only because i know were just friends. Having you in my life and around again makes me happier than you could imagine, don't you ever think otherwise."

"Do you think we should get back together?" He asked softly.

"Honestly, no, not now. I mean all i know about you is stuff from high school, id rather be in love with you now than the boy i knew four years ago. Karl, im not the same person i was. You're not the same either. I will always be in love with you, no doubt about it, but if I don't know who you are now, if I don't take the time to get to know you. We'll know when the time is right, we always have Karl." She said with a smile.

"Im glad were on the same page." He said with a smile.

The pair talked for hours, forgetting about reality and everyone else in the world and just focusing on themselves.
