*two years later*

"When is your graduation day again?" Karl asked, holding her hand as they walked down the city street.

"It's the 27th, yours is the 25th right?" Alex asked in response.

"Yeah, I think I should be able to attend if you have enough tickets."

"I get eight tickets. Five will be used for family so one goes to you and two more of yours can go to whoever in your family. I have a pretty small family, so not many people would be able to show up to mine anyway if I asked. They're all so busy and don't really talk to us." Alex said, swinging their hands gently in the cool spring air. The pair graduated in just a few days and were really excited to finally be done with high school.

"I have eight as well, so only you can attend as my grandparents have to go, but nonetheless you can go so its fine." He said with a small giggle.

"What's gonna happen afterwards? Like, after high school? Do we stay together and stuff?" Alex asked, leaning her head on Karl's shoulder.

"Honestly, I don't want to think about that right now because I don't know what'll happen and I hate it." He replied softly. Silence fell upon them as she nodded and kept walking with him. They were staying at Karl's house for the weekend instead of her own. She missed his family and wanted to stay there to visit them while she had the chance. She had her doubts about whether they'd last after high school, but she tried not to think on it as much.

"Karl, is that you?" His mom asked from the living room as the pair walked in.

"Yeah, it's us!" Karl replied, walking into the living room.

"How was your walk?"

"It was a busy day, but it was nice." Alex replied, sitting on the couch, Karl following suit.

"Have you applied to any colleges, Lex?" His father asked.

"I applied to one in Oregon, a few in New York, and another in North Carolina. I haven't heard back yet from any of them, but I think I should soon." Alex replied, leaning into Karl.

"Have you heard back yet, Karl?" his mom asked him.

"I got accepted into the one from Oregon and one in New York too." He said with a smile.

"That's great!" His mom said with a smile. Alex looked up at him with a proud smile, knowing it was good for him. The continued to watch some of what his parents were watching before going to his room and laying down.

The silence was weighing on them, knowing what was about to be talked about.

"What happens if I don't get accepted into the university in Oregon?" She asked softly, messing with the ruffles on Karl's t-shirt.

"I can take the one in New York." He said with a soft voice.

"But you don't want to. I know you don't want to."

"But I also don't want to leave you." He whispered, feeling his eyes start to water at the mere thought.

"Neither of us can do long distance though, Karl." She whispered. "I know were not there yet, but like-"

"We can revisit whenever you hear back. We still have all summer, right?" He said softly.

"Right." She whispered, really not wanting to think about it. She closed her eyes and felt the tears she was holding back finally fall.

"Hunny, don't cry." Karl said softly, feeling the tears drip onto his shirt.

"I don't want to lose you." She whispered, looking up at him. She could tell he was holding back tears too.

"I don't want to lose you either, Alex." he said, pulling her on top of him as he sat up to hold her. "We'll be just fine, Lex. Even if we have to break up for a little bit."

"But if we break up who's to say we'll get back together." She asked.

"I know we will, I have hope for us." He said.

"Okay." She said, voice shaky from crying. She just couldn't bare the thought of him leaving. In all reality, she wasn't sure she could handle it whatsoever. Karl had been there for three years running, nonstop. He had been the only boy she'd ever loved. That she'd ever been with romantically.

He was her soulmate, she couldn't lose him.
