"Guess who's home!" Katherine yelled, walking through the front door.

"Hey, Katherine." Alex's mom said with a smile.

"Alex! Katherine's here!" Lily yelled with a happy look on her face.

"Katherine!" Alex yelled, running and jumping on her with a wide smile.

"We live half an hour away yet you still act like we haven't seen each other in three years." Katherine said, hugging Alex back tightly, contradicting her words.

"Okay, Lex, you're hogging all of my hugs." Alex's mom said with a smile, her dad walking up behind her mom to hug Katherine as well. Alex sighed, getting off of Katherine and stepping aside so her family could hug Katherine.

"Will Ashton be joining us at all?" Alex's mom asked, smiling at Katherine.

"Not for Thanksgiving night, but I think Lex told me you guys had something planned for the day after, so he said he can make it to that one." Katherine said, smiling back.

"Yeah, what are we even doing, anyway?"

"Just a dinner we were invited to. We'll go over that Friday afternoon and you guys can either leave that night from there or the day after." Alex's mom replied with a smile, retreating to the living room where she once sat.

Alex walked back to the bedroom, shrugging off the plans. She was going to ask Karl to stay an extra day anyway so she could see his family as well. Katherine followed and fell back into the full sized bed that she called her own. After high school, Katherine never once reached out or looked back at her family. Her family was the Raven family, that was it. And now Ashton's family just as much.

"Karl brought you here I assume? I didn't see your car in the drive."

"Yeah, I am low on money right now and was just gonna pick up a shift tomorrow. He convinced me not too and told me all costs were on him as long as we drove even amounts. I finally caved and he drove me here. I stayed Monday night at his house since it was late. Tuesday, so last night, I was here and now I'm here again tonight and tomorrow night. I'll text Karl sometime Friday to pick me up from wherever were gonna end up going." Alex explained, looking at Katherine from across the room.

"That's nice of him. You guys are close, right?"

"I know what you're doing, Kath."

"You guys made out at Ashton's birthday party. What happened with that."

Silence. Alex didn't like remembering that night nor the night that ended up happening a few days ago when they talked about it.

"You guys talked about it didn't you." She asked, reading Alex's mind.

"Yeah, yeah we did. A few nights ago actually, Sunday i believe."

"And, fill me in."

"I asked him if we could talk about it and he asked what there was to talk about, that it didnt have to mean anything. He then asked if it meant anything and i walked off into the kitchen. He followed me and i told him it meant nothing then when he backed off i told him to kiss me again and it ended with me crying. I don't know, Katherine, what if im making a mistake and going back to him wont change the outcome. What if were meant to be apart?"

"Then you are, but why would you rather continuously wonder instead of knowing for a fact. Because at the end of the day, what if you are meant to be together? What if you try things again and he's the one youre supposed to be with and you never know because you keep asking yourself what if questions."

"Katherine-"

"No, Alex you're just hurting yourself more and more and more. It's killing me, i hate seeing you hurt. You keep putting so much doubt into the man who has loved you unconditionally for years. He hurt just as much as you did when you broke up."

"I know he did." She said, voice becoming a whisper thinking about the happy go-lucky kid being so upset.

"Do what you want Alex, you know i will always support you, but do what you want not what you think he wants." She whispered softly, turning to look at the girl who now faced the ceiling.

"I want him."

"Then go get him, you never know anything unless you try."

"I dont wanna fuck up what we have. I'll be fine, i will. As long as he's in my life, i'll be fine."

"Okay, if you say so." Katherine said, backing off. She did as much as she could, but she would never coerce her into a relationship. She had to come to those terms on her own and being convinced wouldn't make the outcome different than what she kept saying it would. If she always was thinking it would end, eventually it would.

Alex has to not be afraid of being hurt before she could ever successfully be in a relationship with Karl. And not one individual knew when that would be possible except for Alex.
