"Today's the day!" Alex said with a smile, walking to wake Karl up.
"No, not yet." He mumbled.
"Karl, we have to pack up the cars, idiot." She said with a smile.
"Don't wake me up." He said softly.
"Karl, you have your life in front of you. It'll be fine, you'll be amazing." She said softly, sitting on the bed by his legs.
"I won't have you." He whispered, sitting up and looking at her.
"No, but I'll be waiting for you in North Carolina. One day, we'll meet again and if we don't, then I guess we weren't meant to last. Things are going to be fine, Karl, I promise. I'm still always a text away. Besides, we aren't broken up yet and I want to enjoy my last day with my boy, okay?" She replied, looking at the eighteen year old with a sad smile.
"Okay, okay." He said with a small but sad smile. He got up and she walked out so he could change. She wouldn't be changing, staying in his sweats and hoodie for the time being. He already told her she could keep them, so that's exactly what she would be doing. Her parents had driven up with Katherine and Ashton to help pack everything up and to take Alex back home.
Alex stood on the wall outside his room, waiting for him. Karl walked out and swiftly picked her up with a smile. She laughed and got put down before getting on his back instead. He quickly adjusted, knowing she liked his piggy back rides instead.
"We got this." She whispered in his hair. He nodded and walked outside to see the progress so far.
"You finally woke him up!" Shawn exclaimed with a smile.
"I was in fact successful, lil Jacobs." She said with a smile.
"Yeah yeah." Karl said with an eye roll and a smile.
"Alright, obviously you don't need all of your stuff but whatever clothes you don't want to take with you stays and whatever. Just take what you want, leave what you don't." His mom said with a smile. Karl put Alex down and she stood next to him with a smile.
The day passed them by quickly and before they all knew it, it was time to leave.
"We'll meet you guys outside." Katherine said with a sad smile. She was going to be the first goodbye, probably also the last goodbye too. But the more emotional one would be done alone, or so they thought.
"So, you really don't think we can do long distance?" Alex asked, looking down at their intertwined hands.
"I could barely handle only seeing you on the weekends, Alex. How am I going to handle only through the phone for four years?" He asked softly.
"I know, I don't think we'd last either to be honest. I know we're both strong enough to do it, but we both love so physically it just wouldn't work." She spoke softly.
"So this is it?" He asked.
"I guess so. We're no longer boyfriend and girlfriend." She whispered, letting her tears fall.
"No, I guess we're not." He replied, puling her into a hug. He also let his tears fall, not even trying to hold back his emotion.
"I hate this, but I know you're gonna do so many great things, Karl. This won't be forever, I can feel it." She sobbed, clutching the back of his shirt tightly.
"And if it is, then it was such an amazing time, Lex."
"I'm gonna miss you, Nimrod." She said, pulling back and wiping her tears, "Go kick this world's ass, babe."
"I'm gonna miss you too, make sure you and Katherine kick life in the ass just as hard as you always have. I love you so fucking much, dude."
"I love you." She said before taking a deep breath. They walked outside, holding hands and leaning on one another. He said goodbye to her family plus Ashton and Katherine before making his way back to her.
"Don't forget me soccer girl."
"I could never, soccer boy." She replied. He kissed her softly before walking to the car, waving at everyone. Karl's mom walked over and hugged Alex tightly.
"I can promise you, love, it's just goodbye for now. That kid is so in love with you, this isn't how your story ends." She whispered. Alex nodded before pulling away and walking to her dad, just hugging him and hiding.
"Darling." He said softly, knowing she was shattered. She heard the car take off and she pulled away and walked to her own. She sat in the back row, curling in a ball and looking out the window.
"Are you okay?" Katherine asked, climbing in with her. She looked at Katherine and shook her head. Katherine pulled her into a hug and she broke completely.
This is more painful than I ever thought it'd be.
