"Alex, we should get going back to your house." Karl spoke, clicking his phone off. She sighed with a smile and nodded.

"I agree, it is like noon now." She said with a smile. He got up and helped her up as well. The pair walked into the living room and announced her leaving to which everyone hugged her and wished her well.

"We have to play Minecraft later." Karl said, walking to his car.

"Yes, yes I agree." She said with a smile. She got into the driver's seat, Karl going to passenger. They agreed to even driving times before they even left North Carolina. She drove to her home, singing the music Karl put on softly.

"What day are you wanting to leave?" Karl asked softly.

"Text me and we can plan it out. I know we have plans the day after Thanksgiving, but furthermore I have no clue what we're doing." She said with a smile, pulling into her driveway. Her parents were already stood outside and Lily ran to the parked car.

"Alex!" She exclaimed, hugging her older sister. Alex leaned down to hug her younger sister with a smile.

"Hey, Lily." She smiled.

"Is Karl on he other side?" She asked excitedly.

"Yes he is." She said with a laugh, watching her sister run around the car to hug him. She walked up to her parents and hugged them both tightly. Karl followed suit with a smile.

"How are you Karl?" Her mom asked with a smile, pulling him into a hug.

"Ive been good! Busy, but good." He said with a smile.

"You grew up." Her father said, smiling at him. Karl smiled back before bidding his long goodbye and driving off.

"You have a lot to fill me in on, Alex." Her mom said with a pointed look and a smile.

"Yeah, yeah. I know, Momma." She said, following her family inside with her sister on her back.

"So when did you and Karl start associating again?" She asked, pouring her a cup of hot tea. Lily was watching TV in the living room with their father.

"A few days after i went back home from here. Not too long, about a month and a half. It's just felt so surreal and not always as happy as it may come off." She replied, stirring the tea softly.

"You know you can always talk to me, Alex."

"I just don't want you to think im unhappy."

"Alex, unhappiness is apart of life. Did i ever tell you the story of how me and your father broke up?"

"What? No?" She said quickly, looking up at her mother.

"Well, we did. We got into this huge fight over something i can't even recall, it was so long ago. We broke up for almost two years. In that time we had both dated other people. I dated one person long term, he dated 3 people short term. Or so he says it's three people, but we were young and i know that is not the case." Her mom said with a smile.

"Mom, ew." She said with a smile.

"Anyway, we both came back to each other but even then it took us two years to start dating again. Neither of us even knew why it took so long, but when it happened again nothing changed. Feelings didnt change and we still argued often. We broke up over eminently nothing because at the end of the day we still argued and we still fought. We just ended up wasting four almost five years of our life not being together over something neither of us remember today.

"In that time frame of five years, i was very unhappy. Of course i had my happy moments, but overall things just didnt go my way. Everything felt cup half empty, even when i was around him. Even now things still get me down. Alex, im saying not everybody is perfect and not everything is sunshine and rainbows. I don't expect you to be happy all of the time, baby."

"So im guessing theres two lessons to this, right?" She asked, looking up at her mom.

"Yeah, you know me pretty well." She spoke with a small laugh. "First of all, i expect you to be upset in certain scenarios, you and Karl being one of them. Second, hunny why have you been waiting around for Karl, tell me that much first."

"Because he's everything. I know im young and im stupid but, he's just like- he's it for me. He's like dad to you. I can't imagine life without him and when we weren't even friends life just felt so dull. I worked myself to death and he doesn't let me do that now. I did everything in my power to keep him out of my mind but i don't do that anymore. He's the one i want forever."

"Then why aren't you doing anything about it? You say you want him, you say he's your all and yeah you're young but that doesn't mean you're feelings aren't real. But why aren't you acting on it?"

"Well, first of all, the off chance he doesn't return those feelings. Second of all, i want to get to know him for who he is now, not base everything off of what happened four years ago."

"Okay, so when do you plan on talking to him?"

"Well, i have to make sure his feelings are reciprocated."

"Alex, that kid looks at you the exact same way he did when you were fourteen years old. Nothing has changed on his end."

"Im just scared to be hurt again."

"And that's okay, but don't let it control you before it's too late, Alex. You'll lose him entirely if you wait too long."
