I felt so uneasy at my own hospitality right now. They didn't know I made the decision to leave but I could feel that they kinda knew already.
I felt betrayed by Helmut and Christian with their ridiculous contract, I also really didn't want to be around Olivia all the time next year, even though I kinda liked her, I knew Rylee would hate that. But most importantly I felt like Mercedes would listen to what I wanted. They wouldn't allow my dad to be in the garage when I didn't want that. Red Bull always allowed him to be there.
Toto told me he would bring me the contract but he never did. He probably changed his mind. I sighed, I really thought it was a done deal.
I needed to get ready for quali so I ran up the stairs to change. I opened the door and I saw a paper laying on the couch. I looked at it quickly, it was a contract. They deleted the clause and put a new one in it. It said that I could leave whenever I wanted if they couldn't give me a competitive car. I sat down on the couch as Christian walked in. "You were right, it was a shit contract, hopefully this one will be better" he closed the door behind him. "Much better but.." I put my hand through my hair. "You really want to leave?" He sat down next to me. I shrugged my shoulders. I was ready to leave, but I had no contact and I loved this team. "You have to do what makes you happy. We obviously want to keep you but you've to think about yourself" I looked at him as he walked out and I put the contact away. I had to think about quali right now, I would deal with this later.

"Box box" GP sounded in my ear and I quickly drove into the pitlane. I was in Q3, I needed some fresh softs to do a fast lap. They quickly changed my tires and I just concentrated on the track. I knew this track very well. "Warm your tires, concentrate on the track, you can do this Max" I heard GP and I could hear the engineers in the background. They were cheering for me, they believed I could do this. I forgot about everything else, I just wanted to give them this pole. I drove my heart out for them, they deserved this.
It was quiet when I passed the finish line. I was waiting for GP to tell me where I ended. "That's pole position!" Once again I heard my team cheering. My team, did I really want to leave them? "YES! Fuck that was a difficult one!" I jumped out of the car and everyone was hugging me. It felt like I just won the championship.

Christian was sitting alone in the hospitality. He was looking at his phone. I walked up to him and he quickly looked up. "Great drive out there Max" I leaned on the table, I looked at him. I could see the stress in his eyes. He actually was afraid I would leave and go to Mercedes. I put the contact on the table and put it in front of him. He quickly scanned the contract and I swear I never saw him smile like that. "You're staying?" He got up and hugged me. "How could I ever leave you?" I laughed. He looked at the contract again and patted my back. I could see the stress disappear in his eyes.
A couple of engineers walked up to us and hugged me as well. I could only hope that this was the right choice even though I really didn't have one.
