Aly's POV
I look around the familiar surroundings and take in the living room of my childhood home which was now decorated with beautiful pastel coloured balloons and frills.
Reaching the bottom of the big staircase i read the banner out up on the wall in front of me "Happy Birthday Aron! ".
It was my half brother's 15th birthday today. I felt a small smile slipping on my face as i walked towards my brother when he came into view.
"Happy Birthday Aron." I cheered with a big smile.
He looked down at me and kept walking making me pout. It wasn't something new, i never really knew why he doesn't like me but i was always just happy over the fact that i had a brother.
I was 11 when Dad brought him home introducing him as my half brother. I didn't really find the difference. For me he was just a big brother. One i have always dreamed of having.
The birthday party started soon after. The beautiful vanilla cake was cut.
"Mother can i have the cake it looks yum." I asked my mother looking at her with hopeful eyes."Ofcourse my little girl, wait here i'll get it for you." She started walking towards the kitchen.
But Father stopped her midway, he turned to me and gave me a glare that immediately intimidated me to look down towards the floor.
"The guests will be served first, control that big mouth of yours." He sneered at me and left.
Mother came to me,
"Hey sweetie just a little more time okay?" I nodded at her.
I looked ahead where Aron was having his cake with his friends. The party was going smoothly ignoring the fact that Aron was literally showing off his expensive gifts he got from father and insulting his friends by saying stuff like they could never afford those.
"Mother?" My mother looked at me.
"Yes my love?"
"Brother is saying bad things? His friends must be hurt, tell him not to."My mother had a look of recognition that showed she understood my words well but one look at my father and she pressed the topic down.
A few minutes had passed and one of Aron's friends came over to me and started talking. He asked me to dance and i agreed after taking permission from mother.
Soon enough more of Aron's friends came over to us and we all started dancing.
"You're better than your brother, atleast you don't insult us." A girl said.
"Am sorry for what he said, that was mean." I replied. We were having a great time until i felt a hand grab my arm in a bruising grip and i was pulled out of the dance floor.
"Hurts father." I said trying to get his hold to loosen while he kept walking down to the basement.
"Well you stupid girl should've thought about it before ruining my son's birthday party, he almost cried because of you." He shouted at me ignoring my glossy eyes and my attempts to free my arm.
"But that's okay because thats all you ever do, stealing other people's happiness, you stole his friends and now you want to ruin his birthday party. But I wont let you do that. You'll stay here until you learn your lesson." With that he pushed me inside the dark basement and even before i could say anything the door locks.
I look around the dark room and feel the fear creeping onto me. I hear a sound and walk towards it, almost gasping when i see a rat running around.
