"Who would leave a cryptic message like this?" Agent Snipe asks, examining the paper carefully. I invited Agent Snipe and Seni to my apartment for safety and to decode who sent the threatening message to me.
Pacing throughout the living room, I can't sit. Heart racing, my anxiety raising. It does feel ridiculous that I'm freaking out over a random message. But it's not just the message, it's the fact that I have no clue who sent it.
"I don't know!" I tell them, still pacing. Both of them have concerned looks on their faces.
"What time did you received the message?" Agent Seni asks.
"It was exactly 9pm" I reply. I'm glad that I was able to remember that information.
"Who would leave a message at that time? Most people rest during those hours." Agent Seni asks, feeling bewildered.
"That's not the only strange thing, but there's no fingerprints for any one of us to decipher. I check thoroughly for any clues, but the paper is clean." Agent Snipe mentions.
"That doesn't make sense. How can the paper be clean when there's blood on it? Did you analyze who's blood is it? That must give us a clue." I tell him, hoping some type of miracle happens.
"Give me some time to analyze the blood." He says.
Agent Seni goes to the kitchen, opening the fridge. I wonder what she wants from there. I hope she is not looking for a meal because it's not a good time to do anything other than focusing on solving this mystery.
"Do want water, Dawn?" She asks.
"No, thank you!" I respond. Not in the mood to eat or drink anything. I can't even relax or think clearly. My mind is all over the place.
"No need to worry Dawn, we will catch whoever sent that message." She tries calming me down, while she picks up a bottle of water and drinks it.
"Are you sure? If we can't find Julian's child and whoever killed Jack, how can we find the person who left this twisted message?" I question her.
"I feel like everything that has been happening is connected." She says.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Think about it. This might be the same person who killed Jack Kalu. Maybe, this person kidnapped Julian's son." She speculates. It annoys me when people speculate. Speculations and accusations only lead to complications. I don't get useful information from them. Disappointing that Seni is speculating.
"Don't say such a thing!" I blurt out, yelling at Seni. Her eyes rises, while her body is frozen. She never thought that I would shout at her. I don't blame her since she is my favorite person ever. But it frustrates me when people I care for say or do nonsensical things. I taught Seni better than that, so I had to show her tough love.
"Sorry for yelling at you. But I don't like that you're speculating. Plus, there's no way Julian's child is kidnapped when he was seen at Times Square days ago." I tell her, lowering my tone.
"Who do think is behind all this?" She asks.
"That's what I'm trying to find out" I reply.
"Please don't hate on me for what I'm about to say..." She pauses, I'm worried about what she's about to tell me. "Do you think Agent Graves might be behind all of this?" She questions.
"Why would Agent Graves do such a thing?" I begin doubting her. She is saying a lot of ridiculous claims. This is beneath her, I don't know why she's saying all this. I hope she does not start turning on me!
"I know it sounds ridiculous to accuse Agent Graves, especially since he was helping us with the mission. But you and Graves didn't have the best send off with each other. He's probably still mad at you." She tries her best to explain.
"I know that Agent Graves was tough to deal with, but he is not behind this. Plus, he would never harm children. So please Seni, stop speculating. I still love and admire you though." I tell her. Seni is in a state of relief that I'm not angry at her. Next time, she shouldn't do this or I would be actually mad.
Agent Snipe finally comes back after analyzing the letter. Looking at his face, he looks disappointed and worried at the same time.
"Sadly, I couldn't figure out who's fingerprints were on the letter." He reveals. Now, I'm frustrated and disappointed that he couldn't find out who sent the letter. But there's one thing on the letter that he didn't mentioned.
"Did you figure out who's blood it was?" I ask.
"The blood came from a random person. I doubt it was from the person who sent you the letter." He says. Groaning loud and shaking my head. He gave me no useful information. Now, my anxiety level is high because I feel like anyone can be behind this.
Ring... Ring... Ring....
Agent Snipe picks up my apartment phone. I wonder who would be calling me at this point of time.
"Who was that?" I ask, curious to know who was calling.
"It was Agent Rye. She said to turn on the TV news station and check social media. We got a bad news, especially for you Agent Dawn." He reveals. I instantly turn on the TV and changed it to a news station. What I saw on the screen left me petrified and heartbroken once again.
The news report says that another child is dead by a gunshot wound. The child is Jon Sesay, who was the cousin of Jack Kalu and Julian's child. The photo shows the dead child with a bullet wound on his forehead.
What makes it even worse than it is, there's another letter on the Jon's stomach that reads, "Agent Dawn started all this and we will end it."
Agent Snipe turns off the TV because he sees how distraught I am. Crying my heart out, looking and feeling a mess.
"Are you alright, Dawn?" Seni asks, feeling concerned for my well-being.
"I don't know what I did to deserve all this suffering..." Pausing to wipe my tears. "I thought retiring from WOA would get rid of all the problems and pain. But it still haunts me and it keeps on getting worse." I begin to cry more. What's the point of even wiping my tears when more are falling? I haven't cried this hard since Jack Kalu died.
Maybe, Seni is right. Someone who knew Julian might be behind all this because it is coincidental that members of his family are getting killed. I don't know if that's the case or not as it is still a speculation. But it seems like the most logical conclusion.
However, the other letter mentions my name. So this person knows who I am. But the worst part is that it's not one person, there was a "we". Now, I'm scared for my own safety because multiple people might be coming for me. Heck, one person already knows where I live. There's only one thing I have to do.
"I need to leave New York!" I tell them.
