Christine's P.O.V
I walked out of the messy, loud room filled with powerful, egoistic creatures trying to come up with a plan and marveled at the view before me. Millions of stars littered the night sky, twinkling as though they were telling me something, while the plants swayed from the gentle cool breeze making me forget all about the tense environment of the room and just relax. A soft knock broke me out of my daze and I turned to see Matthew walking out, my body tensed, my mind reverting to his betrayal, and the relaxing calm environment was long forgotten.
'Beautiful night, isn't it?' he asked in his deep, stupid British accent.
A scoff escaped my lips, my emotions overpowering me while my mind filled with angry thoughts, How could he just talk to me like everything was normal, knowing what he had done?!, It was utterly ridiculous to me.
He sighed as if knowing my thoughts and said ' I know you're angry with me but Christine not talking about it is not going to make it better '
My anger bristled knowing he was right and that I was acting immature but I was too stubborn to admit it so I ignored him.
' I know what I did was wrong Christine, and that I hurt you but know that it was never my intention to hurt you, so I apologize ' he said in a somber tone making me face him to see if he was genuine and God was I shocked. He was telling the truth, I didn't know how I knew but something in my soul was telling me to believe him but when did I ever listen? So instead I asked 'Why did you lie?' anger still in my tone
'It was a decision I made to protect the Council Elders and the Esecta, it was in everyone's best interest at the time ' he said and I could see the loyalty shining in his eyes, I couldn't understand why he was so loyal to the leaders of creatures he was supposed to hate, it made him so much more intriguing. I looked up at him again, his stoic face yet hopeful eyes making me realize that I was slightly overreacting to this, my anger crumbling away and my rational mind starting up again. I turned away from him unable to look at those stupid green eyes for a long time and said ' I get that, I would do the same thing for my loved ones but that doesn't mean we can continue lying to each other, we have to trust each other if we are going to beat this Gallimore character ' now my senses talking and not my anger.
I could feel him walking closer until he was beside me, his strong overpowering scent filling my senses, he smelled like fresh pine mixed with the smell of old books, signifying his old age and wisdom. Why did he have to smell like something I had a total obsession over? It was so very distracting...
'Christine?' he asked making me jump a little and turn to him, barely having the time to suppress the blush from reaching my face.
'Sorry, I spaced out, what were you saying?' I asked acting completely normal as if I wasn't dreaming about his scent.
' I was saying that I agree, trust is very important for our partnership, so I propose a friendship, we do not lie to each other nor do anything to break our trust, do you agree?' he asked looking at me intensely with those green eyes.
I stared at him for a moment thinking and said 'Yep I agree, we could be friends and maybe I can finally get you talking like a normal person ' I joked trying to diffuse the weird tension of this situation.
'We shall see ' he said with complete seriousness but I could see a hint of amusement in his eyes making a small smile appear on my face. He nodded at me and walked back into the room, leaving me wondering what differences this friendship would bring to my life.-----------
'Our plan is very simple, it will go exactly as we want if executed perfectly, and for that, we need the proper people ' Jordan said and gestured for Mathhew to continue
'Two groups will be involved in this plan, each consisting of four, one group will accompany Aurora, and the other will find the seer. Before we discuss this further, we should decide who will accompany whom. I and Willaim will go with Aurora for the bargain however, we need another person with us ' he paused glancing at me for a second and continuing before anyone could answer ' Aderyn will lead the other group whoever so wishes can join her ' He paused again this time giving time for an answer.
'I and my brother will go with her ' the sweet, confident voice of the werewolf princess spoke. Her father turned to her startled and was about to protest but she simply gave him a look of utter fierceness and sass only she could pull off and said 'For the Esecta father'. He stared at her for a few moments and smiled, beaming at his children, making his image in my head become more like a cute fatherly wolf rather than a ruthless wolf.
'Elliot will join them too ' my nan announced from beside my mother, and I snapped my head in her direction with my eyes popping out but before I could say anything she turned to me and said 'Do not worry Christine, Elliot is old enough to battle, I believe he will do well ' in a tone making everyone know that her words were final. I nodded at her still a bit worried but decided to talk to her later.'Right, so we have one group ready with Princess Rose, Aderyn, Prince Charlie, and Prince Elliot, and the other group consists of Me, William, and Aurora, We need one more person ' Matthew said looking directly at me. They all turned to look at me but I looked only at Matthew, raised an eyebrow, and asked
'You want to take me with you?'
'That depends, do you know how to fight?' he asked me
I paused for a second, thinking about just how much I should reveal to them about myself, my trust issues told me to run but I knew to get to the bottom of this I had to sacrifice some information about myself, so I took a deep breath and said truthfully 'yes but I'm not the best, I might be rusty '
He nodded, thinking for a second, and said 'That is fine, but can you defend yourself long enough to take something?'
My eyebrows furrowed in concentration and said 'Yep, I can do that ' with a confident nod.
'We will conduct a training session to test your skills ' he said, more like ordered, and without waiting for me to agree or disagree he announced 'We have our two groups, one led by me and another by Aderyn. The plan is that the first group will bargain with Travis, give him the Esecta, and get the child back. Aurora will then use her powers to knock the book from his hands and thats when the real fight starts ' he gestured for Aurora to continue 'When we are fighting off Travis and his mutants, it will give time for the other group to find the seer and bring her to us, making the scales tip in our favor. We will end the fight by killing Travis and taking the Esecta with us '
Everyone nodded their heads seemingly satisfied with their plan but I couldn't for the life of me understand how bringing the seer to our side would help anything. Maybe it was because I ran away from home and didn't learn about seers and all the other weird, crazy creatures in our world, Yeah that was probably it. So with the confidence that I had built over the years, I cleared my throat in the incredibly quiet room and asked 'How exactly is bringing the seer to our side going to help us?'
All I got was varied expressions of shock, disgust- guess from whom-my mother, intrigue, curiosity, and sadness mainly from my Nan.
'so? Are you going to tell me or?' I asked addressing the whole room, not letting their emotions distract me.
'Child have you not learned about all the creatures- ' the werewolf king, Maximus started but was cut off by my Nan who gave a sharp look to him and said ' A seer can tell the immediate futures that is their immediate actions of the people within a 100-meter radius, so if the seer was on our side we would know the immediate actions of our enemy '
'Oh, that's interesting but what confirmation do we have that she will help us?' I asked and instantly knew the answer, they were going to force her, We're doing murder and coercion, yay!
My Nan went to answer again but I cut her off and said 'Never mind, I got it 'I turned to Aurora and said 'Sorry, you can continue ' with a little too much sass, Dial that down, Christine! I mentally scolded myself.
'That's okay, We will hand out the Calistos, the artifacts needed for protection from a seer tomorrow, It's late now and some of us need our sleep so goodnight but I do expect you all to be here at 8, Thank you ' she said sounding exactly like my AP English teacher, prissy and old.
We all murmured in agreement and went off to our rooms, wondering what our futures would bring us.------------
I was wandering the halls of my dreadfully beautiful home trying to escape from bad nightmares only to remember some other horrible memories when I heard the delicate sound of the piano, I followed the music leading me to the tea-drinking room or whatever it was called, and saw my brother playing the piano. I stood there listening, taking In the peaceful sound when he said 'You're just going to stand there?' in a quiet tone.
'don't stop, it was beautiful Eli ' I replied matching the tone of his voice.
'I wrote for years after you left, I had so much anger and sadness in me, this was the only way I could get it out. Well, thrashing my instructors helped too but you know ' he said sounding like he was over being sad and my heart filled with guilt seeing him like this.
'You got good huh? Good enough for your first battle it seems ' I said knowing apologizing wasn't going to do him any good now.
'Yeah, I guess, it's still a big step though, I'm a little nervous ' he said also knowing what I was doing.
' Don't be, everyone will protect you ' I said.
' I know, I think I'll sleep now, see you tomorrow, Chrissy ' he said getting up from his seat and walking towards the door.
' I know it might not mean anything to you Eli but I am sorry and know that even if your sister wasn't there for you then she is here now, no one can touch you ' I blurted out not able to take his cold attitude, or him walking away from me.
He glanced at me, said 'Goodnight, Chrissy ' and walked away.
Tears pricked my eyes, demanding to flow but I reigned them in, promising myself to do anything to be a good sister, and walked back to my room.————————————
