Christine's P.O.V
The Archives were nothing like the last time I had seen it, the shelves were filled with books of magic, the walls lined with fairy lights and a huge round table with enough seats for all of us placed at the center of the room. So they can decorate! I thought while bidding impressively and sat at the farthest seat from Aurora.
'Welcome, we have gathered you all here because we have gained new information on the whereabouts of The Esecta. The seer has been kind enough to give us the address of the place she was held in which is the human world, more specifically In Castro Street, San Francisco. She has also given us the name Angus Filliard, who might know the exact location of Travis Gallimore. Since we have this information it is of utmost importance that we take action immediately, That being said, Matthew, you may choose who want to take along with you on this mission' Aurora said turning to him after we all were seated.
He nodded at her, stood up, and said 'Thank you Aurora, Princess Christine, Princess Rose, Prince Charlie, and Prince Eliot will be joining me and my family in the human world' he said in a tone that had all of us agreeing with him except Aurora.
'Take the seer with you, she could be useful' she commanded,
'Is that the best course of action? She is still recovering' he rebutted in a calm and controlled voice,
'She is well enough to go, I have examined her myself' she said, challenging him to say anything, he stared at her for a moment and nodded in acceptance.'We will leave tomorrow at the crack of dawn. Please be assembled at the drawing room' he said and we all nodded, 'Thank you for joining us' she said and they disappeared.
Doubt and panic began seeping into me as I lay on my bed, Was taking Eli the best idea? The mission was dangerous and although he was an experienced witch, he hadn't seen the real world, the world where discrimination, murder, corruption, and a whole lot of nonsense were very common. Would he fare well? Or have the power to stomach it? I had learned a lot about him through Nan but I was finding out that I knew nothing about him, he was not the little boy who liked blueberry-flavored cotton candy and windmills anymore.
This saddened me so much that tears filled my eyes and I buried myself into my pillow groaning at my depressed thoughts. He would be fine I decided, he was with three powerful vampires and equally strong werewolves and of course me. I sat up as Nora poked her head into my room after a knock and said 'Mr. William Clairemont is here, Christine'
'Oh tell him I'll be there in 5 minutes' I said and scrambled to wear the pants I had thrown to some of the corners of my room, after the struggle with the pants I ran to the door, composed myself, and walked into the entering area of my room, I think its called.
'Will hi, what are you doing here at this time?' I asked as I sat down next to him on the sofa,
'Hey I know it's late but I just wanted to check in on you, you know after everything that's happened' he said with a tender look on his face
'I'm fine, Will it's just been a little hectic' I said'Why do you care so much?' I asked playfully, with a smile
'You are my best friend, Christine! Of course, I care even if I haven't been doing my duties properly' he said, sadness washing over his face
'Oh please! You're so dramatic, you have been busy just like all of us, Don't blame yourself for anything' I said giving him a comforting smile, he beamed at me and I said 'It's just really weird that you care so much even though you don't even know me that well I said, trying to gain some insight on himHe hesitated for a moment as if pondering whether or not to reveal some big secret, curiosity and hope showed on my face as I gazed at him with my best puppy dog eyes. He looked at me with defeat and said 'Promise me you will not tell what we spoke here to anyone'
'I promise' I said and waited for him to speak, he leaned further into the sofa, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt, and said 'I can sort of feel emotions and control them sometimes' in a low voice, I had to strain my ears to hear it but once my brain processed the information I shouted 'Seriously?!'
He gestured for me to lower my voice, I nodded and whispered 'Are you for real?' I continued before he could answer 'How is it possible? Vampires can't have powers'
He sighed and said 'We don't, normally but we are the exceptions',
'We? So Matthew and Aderyn too?' I asked dying with curiosity and excitement
He nodded and before I could ask all the million questions in my head, he said 'No I will not tell you their powers, that's their choice. I shouldn't have told you about this, to be honest' a rare serious look on his face,
I nodded suppressing the urge to force it out of him and asked 'Why did you tell me then?''Don't take this the wrong way Christine but you are the weakest of us all, If this mission is to be successful then you will have to trust us with your life, and for that, you have to know that we can protect you' he held my hand and continued 'I know the rift between us creatures is great but I can feel your emotions, you're scared, lonely and distrustful. I can't watch you suffer this way, so please take comfort in our abilities and try to trust us' his eyes were comforting and wistful.
'Who knew you were so wise and perceptive?' I joked he gave me a pointed look and I sighed, 'I'm sorry, I'll try Will, I promise but it's not easy...' I trailed off,
'I know, Christine, I know' he said and squeezed my hand comfortingly.
'Anyways, will you get in trouble for telling me about this?' I asked, changing the topic.'Matthew will be angry but he will agree with the logic in this, Aderyn on the other hand will try to kill me' he chuckled and continued 'No mortal except a few have known about our powers and you're a witch. She is going to be angry for a long time'
'She hates witches huh?' I asked and he snorted and said 'Yes, she isn't very subtle'. I nodded at him and said 'So that's why you're so unlike a normal vampire''Is that stereotyping I hear, Princess?' He asked playfully, with a small smile on his face, I rolled my eyes with a matching smile and said 'No It's just there's a vampire and then there's you. You're so compassionate and kind, most I've met are arrogant jerks, you've been a mystery to me from the start but now I know why'
His smile widened and he said 'Mystery huh? Thank you', I smiled back but it dropped when I realized something and asked 'You can always sense emotions? Like do you have an off and on button?', worrying about my privacy.
He laughed and said 'I know what's going on in your mind but unfortunately, there is no button for emotions, so yes I always know'
I groaned and said 'Great, can I step down from the position of your best friend?'He smirked adorably and said 'Please you find me cute and adorable', I sighed dramatically and said 'Yes, I should get my mind checked, right?'
He smacked my hand lightly and said 'I'll let you sleep now, you've got to get up early tomorrow', I nodded and asked 'Are the preparations for the trip done?'
'Yes, we don't sleep a lot remember? Don't worry and get some rest, I know you're tired, Goodnight Christine', 'goodnight' I said and walked back into my room.I leaned on the door of the room as I thought about all the knowledge that Will dumped on me, Vampires with powers? That was something I didn't expect to hear in my entire life. I wonder what power Matthew had. Aderyn has some power related to gleaning off information from the brain I think but Matthew's power was a complete question mark, maybe it was always being a diplomatic, calm, and collected robot?
I laughed out loud at that thought decided that I would ask him tomorrow and thought about all the other stuff Wise Will said, trusting them would be better but was I ready for that? A part of me wanted to agree but the other, the more paranoid one screamed at me to run far away. I sighed at my internal conflict and reassured myself that I would be gone after we found the Esecta, there was no need to trust them fully, a little would be enough for now, I promised myself and fell into my bed.
