Christine's P.O.V
A knock awoke me from my nightmares and I shot up, alert and ready to attack. My hands were shaking and my heartbeat was frantic, I was reliving the nightmare in my head, my breathing quickened, and I knew what was coming next but I couldn't control the panic attack. Just when I was on the brink of screaming my guts out, a voice, of which I was sure of an angel, called out 'Christine?'
I concentrated on the sound when it called out again and my panic started dissolving, quickly displaced by embarrassment when I realized who it was. Even if it was a futile effort I slowed my breathing, composed myself, and walked to the door.
I opened it and saw him standing there looking at me with a curious yet concerned look, 'What happened in there? Are you fine?'
'Uh yes, I was..' I paused deciding that there was no point in lying to the vampire, he'd heard everything anyway and said ' I was having a nightmare '. His eyes held understanding as if he knew what I was going through and he nodded. He gestured for us to leave and I nodded not wanting to break whatever comforting silence we had between us.
The night was cold and blissful, the flowers slept, the plants and trees swayed with the air, and the moon shined bright, I glanced at Mathhew walking beside me, curious and intrigued at how he had understood anything from the four words I had said. I knew he was really old and had probably gone through a whole lot more than I had, A part of me wanted nothing more than to know all of his scars but another, the more distrusting part of me said to run to the hills when I still could. Although I slightly agreed with her, I knew I had to save my nan and Eli from this mess so I shut out that part of me with the assurance that the moment they were safe, I would be gone, running for the hills as suggested.
We reached the entrance to the secret room which was exceptionally disguised and I said 'This is it '. There was silence as I saw him touch the door, I didn't suspect anything to happen but it glowed, I gasped at the sight of the glowing door, totally entranced by it. It opened and Mathhew motioned for me to walk, I did so, and the door locked behind us startling me from my trance. A surprisingly warm hand caught mine, guiding me through the darkness, it was comforting I noted, something that was a going a trend with him. He didn't seem as scary to me, though I knew him to be ruthless. I'd heard the rumors, the vampire with no soul, one of the most powerful ones, one that could rip my heart off before I could even blink, and here I was being guided by him through the darkness. That thought sent chills throughout my body but I knew he wouldn't hurt me, he was bound by a deal, one that he made and I hoped to God that he was a man of his word.
He pulled me into a room and I blinked at the soft light spreading around us, It looked like a library but somehow more beautiful, captivating. I knew it was magic, It was oddly soothing but I didn't trust it, nor would I ever, not after the last time. 'Let's start looking, shall we?' He said finally breaking the silence. I nodded and we started.
'There's nothing here about we need unless you think need we a recipe for kwara Aseci, what even is that?' I ranted, irritated by our lack of finding anything in the past three hours.
'It's Ellym, the old language, it means healing potion' he said without turning towards me, still looking through books. The old language, I'd heard of it but never really learned it, if I had stayed home any longer than I had I would've probably learned but I didn't have a chance to. I sighed, accepting that there was nothing here, and said 'Come on Matthew there is nothing here, this was a waste'
' I suppose there isn't, but are you sure? We could search some more' he said keeping the book he was holding down and turning to me.
'Yep, im sure let's go, we have to Well I have to sleep, got to be ready for tomorrow' I said hating that the thought of tomorrow, sent my voice wavering.
'Ok, come on ' he said taking my hand again, leading me through the darkness. We reached back outside and I turned to him, 'Listen im sorry for this, clearly my theory wasn't right '
'It's ok, you followed your gut, that is a good skill to have' he said, giving ne an earnest look. I gave him a half-smile and said 'Goodnight Mathew', I heard a soft good night and he was gone, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I was disappointed that I wasn't right, but there was something fishy about this whole thing. I felt some part of me, warning me to solve this before it was too late but I ignored that like always and walked back to my for a good night of sleep before I had to face the place of my nightmares - My home.
Unknown P.O.V
'Is it done?' her cold, unnerving voice asked me, making me tremble. ' Yes, we are all set for the ball, all the leaders are attending' I said, quite confident in our strategy.
'Good, but remember if one thing goes out of hand, you will lose your head' she said her voice more distorted and her green eyes shining brighter. I nodded at her, said 'Yes ma'am', and walked out of the room not wanting to be close to her. I hated working under somebody, especially someone crazy like her but I knew to have my revenge I had to use her, this was the only way.....
