Chapter 25

Christine's P.O.V

Relieved sobs filled the room as she wept and without hesitation, I pulled her into me. I said nothing as Matthew and Eli left us alone to check on the status upstairs.

I waited as she let out all her emotions and asked 'Do you want to go back?', she shook her head in a no and whispered 'I have to see it', wiped her tears away and shot to her feet.

'Woah, there easy, Em' I said as I steadied her wobbly legs, I let go after she nodded in confirmation of her stability and followed her as she led us to the place where Travis Gallimore had died.

A groan followed by a snort greeted us as we reached the room and I raised an amused eyebrow at the scene, Charlie was laughing at a horrified Eli, and Rose looked exasperated at their antics, 'Why are you like this, Charlie? Help the poor boy' she ordered him, he gave her a smirk but that faltered when she shot him a glare, he muttered something I couldn't pick up and led Eli away from the crime scene.

Her eyes lighted with surprise when she saw us approaching and she asked Emily 'Are you sure you want to see, it's pretty gruesome in there', Em stared at the closed door with a blank look and nodded.

Rose gave me a look of concern, I returned it and nodded at her, we may be worried but Emily needed closure, she needed to know her tormentor was unable to hurt her ever again.

She opened the door and I was instantly hit with the stench of blood, I almost gagged at the sight in front of me, one wall was splattered by blood and what looked to be human intestines were lying on the floor, as I turned in my spot I could see a finger and many other body parts thrown across the room but there was no body.

'Is that a heart you're holding, Aderyn' I asked in shock and for once instead of a glare I received a nod, 'Is it his?' Rose asked
'There is no way to know without a test' Will said, examining the room.

'It's his' Emily confirmed and we all agreed, knowing her powers were at work, she let out a shaky breath and said 'I'm ready to go now' and left the room, 'I'll go with her' Will volunteered and I shot him a smile knowing he was best in these situations.

'So, who killed him? And were they stupid enough to leave the book?' I asked and Rose laughed, 'Oh god I hope so, that book is important to all of us' she said as she took the heart and studied it with focus.

'Why would he be killed in such a brutal way?' She asked aloud, I looked at the mess of human remains and shivered, brutal indeed.

'Perhaps he betrayed his employer and they killed him or' Matthew started and I finished 'They were trying to send a message, stop searching for the book or else'

We stared at each other, his eyes shining in surprise and mine in realization, were we thinking the same thing? Was I as smart as a vampire? I mentally snorted at my thoughts and focused on the task at hand.

'So, what are we supposed to do now?' I asked, Matthew removed his phone and dialled a number, he muttered a quick address and ended the call.
'The forensics team will be here in a moment, I suggest we search the house for any information and leave as soon as possible' He said to us and we nodded,

'I will tell Elliot and Charlie to take the ground floor' she said
Matthew nodded at her and said 'Please tell Aderyn to lead the forensics team here, princess'
'Okay,' she said and dashed off to the ground floor.

I and Matthew took the 1st floor and started rummaging through the rooms. 'Who do you think is behind this?' I asked as I opened a drawer, I heard him pause from his extremities fast reading and he said 'I am not entirely sure, the Council has many enemies'
