Christine's P.O.V
We all gathered in the meeting room after our tense deal and I sighed a little in exhaustion, how could a duration of 30 mins induce a headache so bad in me? What was wrong with me?
"They asked for the heart stone!" Exclaimed Em as she and Aderyn entered the room.
"Yeah, what does it do exactly?" Aderyn asked as she sat beside Em.
"Legends say it has the power to heal any illness, it was used only once to heal the Warrior princess of Terra when she accidentally drank a poison meant for her father" Rose answered.
" So it heals just like that? No price paid?" Will asked as he glanced at her. It was probably the first time he had done so today.
She glanced at him with an indifferent look and shrugged, "I am not sure about that" she said turning away from him. Were they having a fight? A lover's quarrel? I couldn't say.
"All magic has a price, even the heart stone which can heal any sickness must have one too" Matthew said as he looked at me.
I raised my eyes off the table and stared back at him, his emerald eyes taking me off guard, did they always shine so bright? It seemed to worsen the stinging in my head, so I broke the stare and said " yes, that is true, I think it would help if I called Nan. Only the queen or king can give us the stone" I said as I rubbed my head.
"Will the elder and the ministers agree?" Asked Em, a worried look on her face.
"They normally wouldn't but this is a matter of their precious book so they have no choice" I said.
She nodded with the same worried look so I questioned, "Have you seen anything, Em?"
She shook her head in a no and said "I just have a feeling of doom hovering over us"
Her words sent a chill down my back and I grimaced at my intensifying ache.
I put that thought aside, gave a comforting squeeze to her hand said "It will be okay, Em, let's just call Nan and ask her for now"
She squeezed my hand back and I glanced at Will, please diffuse the tension in this room, I conveyed with my expression and with a smile he agreed. A calm washed over us all and I pulled my phone out to call Nan.
After three rings, Nan picked up the call and said "Christine! Not once have you called me since you started! How worried do you plan on making an old woman like me? She screamed.
I questioned my brilliant decision to put this call on the speaker phone and said "Hello to you too, Nan! Fair warning, you are on the speaker phone"
She seemed to sigh her anger out and said " Hello everyone, how have you all been? Christine has been no trouble has she?
I rolled my eyes and glared at Charlie who sputtered out a laugh and said "Nan we are all fine and besides this call is to ask you something important not for you to hover over me like a worried bird"
"Okay okay, go on, what is it? She asked.
And with that I narrated the story of our day to her with some inputs from everyone.
"The heart stone is indeed difficult to procure from the hands of those soul sucking elders but it is not impossible" she whispered softly as if to not let them overhear.
"But you can get it, nan? The elders and ministers would agree if it were for the Esecta right?" I asked in a hopeful tone. The faster this trip would get over the better.
She sighed and said "Yeah, the ministers will agree immediately to gain my favour and Aurora might agree with some persuasion but does Mr. Alamilla know about the price he has to pay?"
