Christine's P.O.V
'Is she safe here?' I asked as we saw guards running, Will quickly grabbed a guard and instructed him to protect the seer,' She will be now' he said and I sighed in relief. 'What do you think is happening?' I asked as I strained my ears to make out what they were shouting,
'It's witches yelling, come, let's see what it is' Matthew said as he turned to me with a serious yet guilty look on his face, I nodded and asked 'What?' After noticing his look but before I could blink or receive an answer I was being vamped, dizziness came over me after we stopped and I leaned into Matthew's toned, cold chest, 'do not ever do that again!' I shouted as I became oriented again,
' I apologize' he said as he held me by my waist and asked 'Are you alright?', I looked up into his pretty eyes and nodded, I felt my throat dry up at his chilly touch and suddenly I was all too aware of how close we were.
I realized I was still leaning on him, so I tried to stand up straight and regretted it as I winced, 'Where is Will?' I asked not noticing him with us and hoping to distract him from that slip-up, ' he is on the other side of the gates, are you sure you are fine, Christine?' He asked again,
'OK, and yeah, I'm fine' I said and tried to look away from his suspicious eyes and towards the courtyard and the gates, which all the guards were flowing into. However I couldn't get a good look because of the vampire blocking my view, 'Shouldn't we be going outside too?' I asked and looked at him again, his suspicion remained but he moved, letting me go first.
My eyes searched for Nan and Eli as I scanned the crowd, I found them in the corner with the other royals protected by the guards. The Elders were in the center surrounded by guards, forming a shield-like structure to protect them from the citizens of Terra protesting about something and trying to get into the palace grounds.
'What the hell are they protesting about?' I asked no one in particular and was given the answer when an angry woman screamed 'You're supposed to be protecting us but instead you lost the most important thing for witches! How can we be safe here? We are not safe!'
I gasped in shock and turned to Matthew who also had a shocked look on his face, 'How do they know about it? Isn't it a top secret?' I asked him as I saw her instigate the small group of people.
'It is, she should not know about it' he said as he looked over the situation, analyzing them.'So, what happens now?' I asked as I saw the crowd growing, 'The Elders have certain protocols for situations like this' he said, not turning to me, 'They do? for something this specific?' I asked a little surprised and impressed but before he could answer the woman noticed us standing together and spouted
'Ahh, you have these disgusting creatures here too, No wonder the Esecta is lost, these greedy, selfish monsters probably stole it, or maybe it was the banished princess. How could you let those creatures and her in our kingdom?' She had so much malice on her face and venom in her tone that it almost made me take a step back, I turned to Matthew to find his face blank like he was used to hearing profanities being thrown at him, anger and sympathy, filled my being as I stared at the group of men and women screaming.
I was about to interfere when Aurora shouted 'Enough' quietening everyone, 'The Esecta is not lost, the citizens of Terra are safe, there is no reason for any panic and you' She glared at the woman and continued 'have no right to insult the guests of your kingdom, whoever they are' her words left no room for any more protest and the woman glared at me and Matthew for one last time before walking away, the crowd dispersed quickly after that and I sighed in relief, it had been a long time since I had seen that kind of hate and it freaked the hell out of me.
We assembled in the throne room for an emergency meeting and immediately Mother Dearest barged into the room and started yelling 'What have you done, Aurora? I can see through your lies, I know the Esecta is lost and I demand to know how you lost it. It is the most important book we have and I was sure that even though that rogue threatened your son's life you would make sure that the book was safe and in our hands but you have done the opposite! How is this possible?'
