Christine's P.O.V
My gasp woke me up, tears flowing down my face, and the nightmare repeating like a broken record in my head. The clock showed that it was only 7:30, so I fell back into my bed, trying to relax and fall back asleep but my head made sure none of that was going to happen, so I gave up and decided to take a bath. I was drying my hair when I heard a soft knock on my door, I opened it and found no one but a neatly folded paper on the floor, the smell of pine and old books hitting me instantly. A letter? Of course, "Mr. Who knows how old of a vampire he is " would send letters, I thought with amusement and picked it up
Christine's P.O.V
I walked out of the messy, loud room filled with powerful, egoistic creatures trying to come up with a plan and marveled at the view before me. Millions of stars littered the night sky, twinkling as though they were telling me something, while the plants swayed from the gentle cool breeze making me forget all about the tense environment of the room and just relax. A soft knock broke me out of my daze and I turned to see Matthew walking out, my body tensed, my mind reverting to his betrayal, and the relaxing calm environment was long forgotten.
'Beautiful night, isn't it?' he asked in his deep, stupid British accent.
A scoff escaped my lips, my emotions overpowering me while my mind filled with angry thoughts, How could he just talk to me like everything was normal, knowing what he had done?!, It was utterly ridiculous to me.
He sighed as if knowing my thoughts and said ' I know you're angry with me but Christine not talking about it is not going to make it better '
My anger bristled knowing he was right and that I was acting immature but I was too stubborn to admit it so I ignored him.
' I know what I did was wrong Christine, and that I hurt you but know that it was never my intention to hurt you, so I apologize ' he said in a somber tone making me face him to see if he was genuine and God was I shocked. He was telling the truth, I didn't know how I knew but something in my soul was telling me to believe him but when did I ever listen? So instead I asked 'Why did you lie?' anger still in my tone
'It was a decision I made to protect the Council Elders and the Esecta, it was in everyone's best interest at the time ' he said and I could see the loyalty shining in his eyes, I couldn't understand why he was so loyal to the leaders of creatures he was supposed to hate, it made him so much more intriguing. I looked up at him again, his stoic face yet hopeful eyes making me realize that I was slightly overreacting to this, my anger crumbling away and my rational mind starting up again. I turned away from him unable to look at those stupid green eyes for a long time and said ' I get that, I would do the same thing for my loved ones but that doesn't mean we can continue lying to each other, we have to trust each other if we are going to beat this Gallimore character ' now my senses talking and not my anger.
I could feel him walking closer until he was beside me, his strong overpowering scent filling my senses, he smelled like fresh pine mixed with the smell of old books, signifying his old age and wisdom. Why did he have to smell like something I had a total obsession over? It was so very distracting...
'Christine?' he asked making me jump a little and turn to him, barely having the time to suppress the blush from reaching my face.
'Sorry, I spaced out, what were you saying?' I asked acting completely normal as if I wasn't dreaming about his scent.
' I was saying that I agree, trust is very important for our partnership, so I propose a friendship, we do not lie to each other nor do anything to break our trust, do you agree?' he asked looking at me intensely with those green eyes.
I stared at him for a moment thinking and said 'Yep I agree, we could be friends and maybe I can finally get you talking like a normal person ' I joked trying to diffuse the weird tension of this situation.
'We shall see ' he said with complete seriousness but I could see a hint of amusement in his eyes making a small smile appear on my face. He nodded at me and walked back into the room, leaving me wondering what differences this friendship would bring to my life.
