the first day of school was a blur. the morning of Mami was already work and yaya was asleep so it was up to me to make sure Miguel got to school on time and that he ate. doing so I almost forgot my own bag, so I had to run back for it. which made me late for first period along with Miguel. it was embarrassing. Lunch, well that was okay. I got invited to sit with Sam and her friends in which I got introduced to her boyfriend, Kyler and his friends. they seemed like decent people, well that was until they started making fun of a kid's cleft lip.

Kyler- look at him! haha, that shits gross!

Yazmine- who would date someone with that? it's like a disease or something

Kyler's friend- yeah, looks like shit!

Julia- I think it looks alright.

they all looked at me confused as I looked at my food in front of me, I felt my leg start to bounce at the attention suddenly on me.

Yazmine- so you would date someone like him?

Julia- I uh didn't say that I'm just saying I don't see an issue with his lip. it's just a cleft lip.

they looked at me before laughing, I sighed knowing they were laughing at me as I took a bite out of my food. the rest of the day was just normal, Miguel and I had to take the bus but when it stopped at the corner by the strip mall, he got off saying he needed to do something. I wasn't okay with this, so I got off with him, but by the time I had made it across the street he was already gone. I groaned in annoyance as I pulled out my phone to text him, only for it to get snatched out of my hand by this guy and his friend. one had a beard and the other was wearing a backwards cap.

Beard boy- woah check it out, she has a really great phone here

Cap boy- great service, must be on a really good data plan. oo look she's texting her little brother!

they both started laughing as I sighed and tried to grab my phone back, but they only started tossing it back and forth between each other which led to me standing in the middle trying to grab it.

Julia- please give it back! I need to finish texting my brother!

Beard boy- try and grab it!

Cap boy- i might just keep this for myself actually!

the boy held my phone in his hands as I tried to grab it from him, his friend was laughing at my struggles when out of nowhere I heard someone yell 'Trey, Cruise!' before the phone was taken from his grasp making him whip is head around, I followed his gaze only to see this boy with his hair pulled back into a bun. he was also wearing this blackish grey shirt and holding a skateboard.

Bun boy- don't tease the girl, Trey.

Trey- I wasn't teasing, I was getting the phone. come on man, you see how perfect that shit is

Cruise?- it can be a fortune if we sell it! come on, Robby!

Robby- we aren't selling it.

Robby looked at me before handing me back my phone, I mumbled a thank you as his friends scuffed. they mumbled something under their breath's and walked away from us, leaving me with Robby.

Robby- uh sorry about them, they see something they like and just want to take it

Julia- its fine, um thank you for grabbing it for me

Robby- yeah, well you looked to be struggling. seems you aren't from around here?

Julia- nope, I used to live in riverside, but we moved to the apartments just yesterday

he nodded with a slight smile as he readjusted his board that was tunked under his arm.

Robby- where do you go to school than, new girl?

Julia- uh West Valley

he looked slightly disappointed as he looked towards the road before at me, I felt a little bad even though I didn't do anything wrong. I looked at my phone before looking at him.

Julia- you can have my number if you want, I'm still getting used to being here so if you want to show me around. i won't object to that

Robby- *chuckles* alright, I can work with that

he took my phone from my hands before typing his number in, he handed it back at me and I see he put his name as 'Robby' with a heart next to it making me laugh. Once I looked back up at him, he had a smile on his face while he set down his board.

Robby- text me, new girl

he started skating away as I realized I had forgotten to tell him my name, I quickly texted him a short 'it's Julia Diaz.' I watched him stop on his board and pull out his phone, I saw the message said read before he sent a reply which was an 'alright, Julia. I'll see you tomorrow at 4. I'll text the address' I giggled to myself as I watched him skate away fully.  I stopped once I realized Miguel was still gone so I sent him a text before running to look for him. after running around the mall for what felt like years, I found him sitting on the curb.

Julia- Miguel! you can't just run off like that, yaya would kill me if something happened!

Miguel- sorry, I uh got hungry and wanted something to eat. by the time, I got out I didn't see you so I just sat here

Julia- *sighs* you are something else. let's go, we need to get back before yaya and mami think I left you at a firestation

he laughed as we started walking, he offered me some chips in which I gladly accepted as we continued to walk. I filled him in on my day and he did the same to me, I learned he made two friends whose names were Eli and Demetri. I remembered Eli was the one that Kyler was making fun of, I didn't want to upset Miguel, so I just kept it to myself and allowed him to talk. when I told him about my day, I left out the detail of my phone almost getting taken and meeting Robby.  I just know how he gets when people mess with me or even when I meet a boy. his go to thing to say is "I don't want to see you get hurt", but I don't think Robby would hurt me at least not yet anyways.
