"Morning sunshine, how'd you sleep last night?" Sam smirked as I jolted out of his bed.
"Holy shit!" I exclaimed, "There is absolutely NO WAY I fell asleep in your room last night!"
"Apparently there is a way, because ya did," Sam chuckled, "It's not like its the first time either. Remember the bonfire night?"
"Yeah yeah Sam, I remember," I sigh as I flop back down on his comforter.
"If you're worried about Liz, I told her that you spent the night," Sam said, "She's cool with it."
"Oh, good," I exhaled.
"Hey, Y/N," Sam started, placing a hand on my shoulder, "Wanna go on a date?"
"Like right now?" I asked, "I don't have any clothes to wear."
"You're literally wearing clothes right now," Sam says deadpanned.
"Yeah but they aren't clean," I complained.
"Then swing by your place," Sam replied, "And then I'll take you on a date."
"What kind of date?" I asked.
"It'll be a surprise," Sam winked.
"Sounds like a plan, love," I smiled as I climbed out of his window.
"Love..?" Sam blushed, "Huh, not bad."
I sprinted across town to get to the farm. The last thing I wanted to do was keep Sam waiting. But of course, Elizabeth was waiting for me once i opened the door.
"So I'm guessing it's official now?" Liz asked.
"Wow, you're so perceptive. I applaud you," I replied sarcastically.
"Fucking finally!" She exclaimed, "I swear you two are the most oblivious people in all of Pelican Town! I've been waiting for this for literally forever!"
"Well ya got your wish," I sighed, "Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a date to get ready for." She squealed at that.
I double-timed it up the stairs, and threw on a pair of cargo pants and shirt. And of course, I finished off the look with Sam's blue sweatshirt. I the. grabbed some crackers out of the pantry, and once again, ran to Sam's place. He stood outside his door, car keys in hand.
"Wow, nice car," I panted, "So where are we going?"
"Thanks, Seb helped me refurbish it. And well, I was thinking we could drive along the road overlooking the coast," Sam stated, "I know a good overlook a few miles from here so we can stop for a bit."
"Sounds lovely," I replied.
"Then hop in shotgun and let's go!" Sam exclaimed. I did as he said, and immediately grabbed his hand as he put his foot on the gas.
"Jesus christ, Sam!" I cried, "Don't get us killed!"
"I know what I'm doing Y/N," Sam laughed as he opened the sunroof, "I like to think of myself as a very good driver."
"Just so you know, if we crash, you're paying my medical bills," I snapped.
"Fineee," Sam whined, "I'll go 60 instead of 90."
"YOU WERE GOING 90 MPH?!" I screamed.
"Chill, Y/N," Sam laughed, "You survived."
"Barely," I exhaled, "I swear, you give me heart palpitations sometimes." He laughed at that.
"Hey, look outside," Sam pointed to the ocean below, "Absolutely breathtaking, don't ya think?"
"Yeah definitely," I marveled, "This is a really nice kinda sorta first date so far."
"What d'you mean kinda sorta?" Sam raised an eyebrow.
"Well, we've done a lot of stuff like this before, just not as a couple," I explained.
"Come to think of it, we have," Sam scratched his neck, "It's nice that that that doesn't have to happen anymore, no?"
"The dates without dating? Yeah it is," I sighed.
"Don't get me wrong, I loved our 'hangouts', but the fact that we're together now makes it more special."
"Agreed," Sam replied as he kissed my cheek, "Any music preference?"
"Just the usual stuff," I replied. Sam puts on his playlist and cranks the volume.
"So, what're your plans for the future?" Sam asks.
"Hmm," I pondered, "Well when I moved here, I really wanted to be a songwriter, but I'm not so sure I have the talent for it."
"Hey! Don't say that!" Sam glances at me reassuringly, "I bet you're great at it, considering you picked up guitar so quickly."
"For the record, that was one time," I said, "And besides, it's not that realistic."
"It's still a dream," He replied, focusing back on the road, "And it's my personal philosophy that you should always try to follow your dreams, regardless if they're realistic or not. And if it was
up to me, I'd love to have you help write the songs for the Pelicans."
"Thanks, Sam," I smiled.
We pull up to this lookout spot overlooking the ocean. The water was sparkling in the midday sunlight. I put on his hoodie as we get out of the car.
"Alright Y/N, pick out a spot. I've got some food in the back," Sam says as he walks over to open the trunk of his car. I walk over to a weathered picnic table that is closest to the edge of the cliff, and sit down, admiring the view. Sam joins me soon after, sitting next to me on the bench.
"Alright, here we go," Same sets a bag filled with food on the table, "Take what you want."
I grabbed some food for the both of us and cracked open a Joja cola.
"Thanks for this, Sam," I said.
"Anything for you," Sam replied and smiled warmly. My face slightly flushed red.
"Aww you're blushing," Sam laughed and poked my cheek, "So adorable."
"Hey!" I exclaimed. He snickered.
"Ugh, you're insufferable." I sighed.
"I know I am," He bragged.
"Well, at least you're self aware." I smiled.

"Ahhh, this is nice," Sam sighed, stretching and then putting his arm around me.
"Smooth, Sam," I scoffed, "Really smooth."
"I know right?" Sam replied, "Im just cool like that."
"Yeah yeah," I rolled my eyes, "Suree." Sam laughed and kissed my forehead. The wind from the sea blew strongly against the overlook. I shivered and pulled away from Sam to put on his hoodie.
"Heyy," He smirked, "You look good in that."
"I wonder why you say that now," I replied sarcastically as he pulled me back towards him.
We sat in silence for a while, watching the sunlight sparkle against the sea below. Sam played with my hair as the sun began to lower in the sky.
"You doing okay?" Sam broke the silence.
"Yeah, I'm doing alright," I yawned.
"Could you give me a second? I'll be right back," Sam asked, taking the bag of food.
"Mhm.." I sighed. He then ran back to his car and set the bag back into the trunk, returning to where we were in about three minutes.
"That was fast...ah!" I exclaimed as he scooped me up into his arms."
"Shh..calm down," Sam laughed, setting me down, "No need to be dramatic."
"Sorry," I said, "You did catch me by surprise though."
"Yeah I know," Sam smiled sheepishly, "I thought I'd carry you to the car."
"It's a nice thought, but I can walk," I replied, ruffling his hair. We walked to the car and Sam opened the door for me as he then got into the driver's seat and stepped on the gas. He held my hand as I looked at the road ahead of us.
"Thanks Y/N," Sam started, "For coming on this date."
"Well, you are my boyfriend," I looked up at him, "Why wouldn't I come?"
"You have a point there," He said, "I've just been think that you don't really like me like that. You know?"
"Hey," I replied, "I do like you like that. There's no reason to be afraid that I don't." I kissed his cheek.
"Hehe, thanks Y/N," Sam smiled.
