Eva: A Taste of Happiness

I walked back to my dorm with a skip in my step. The hot sun and long walk did not bother me as I thought gleefully of what gift could she give to Brittney. For the eighth time that day, I took out my phone and read the text message from Morgan. "6:00 pm tonight at Winding River. See you there!" I quickly ran up the stairs and barged into my room. As usual, there was no one in the room. A couple of weeks ago, I had overheard Brittney talking about a brooch she found online but was always sold out. It was a silver flower with a diamond in the center and sequins embedded along the edges. Since my sister works at the factory which produces them, I requested her to ship me one as Brittney's Christmas present, but now is a good time as ever.

I took out a small white box and opened it to double check that it was still there. Then I put it in my purse along with several other items. Looking at my simple shirt and pants, a voice whispered in my mind. Maybe it was better to change. I walked to my closet, my brain jumping from one outfit to another until finally landing on a knee-length red dress with a black ribbon around the waist. I looked in the mirror and combed my hair before gathering my things to leave the room.

I quickly ran down the stairs and towards the gate where the white car that I requested to pick me up was waiting for me. I jumped into the car and made my way towards the Winding River. There was a Winding River back in my hometown that I went to many times and hopefully the taste would not be too different.

I got to the Winding River at the same time as Morgan and Brittney did. Brittney had ridden in Morgan's car with a blindfold on.

"I don't understand the necessity of making this trip a surprise," Brittney said

"I think you will the moment you take it off. I promise." Morgan said winking at me as I walked up.

"Whatever," Brittney huffed as Morgan guided her inside the restaurant and into our seats.

"Now you can take off the blindfold," Morgan said

"Finally," Brittney muttered and carefully took it off as to not ruin her makeup or hair. She looked around slow recognition appearing in her eyes along with surprise as to see me there too. "No way, Winding River! And Eva is here too! Thank you so much Morgan!" Brittney said a smile lighting up her face.

"No problem! Who is the greatest friend in the world?"

Brittney mischievously looked at me and said, "Eva is,"

With a fake discontent smile, Morgan said, "Whatever makes you happy dear. I got you a present." Morgan said taking out hers

"Me too," I said eagerly and took out mine

Brittney opened Morgan's box first and inside was a short pink silk dress with a white ribbon tied at the waistline. "OMG! Morgan, it is amazing, did you make this?"

"Yes, just for you." Morgan said with a smile,

"Thank you!" Brittney smiled as she looked at it again before putting it into the box. She then opened mine and I felt a familiar tingle of anticipation and doubt as it whether she would like it or not. However, it seemed like I worried over nothing when Brittney opened the box with a gasp. "Eva! It is the brooch I have always wanted! It looks just as beautiful as the picture. Thank you!"

"No problem, I'm glad you like it."

"You two have made my day...actually my entire week." Brittney smiled

"We are happy to-" Morgan smiled, "Now before the waiter yells at us, let's order our meals."
