Morgan was good at planning events. Maybe a little too good. When she planned the night out to cheer Brittney up, I didn't know she had planned something extra. Apparently after the dinner, Morgan offered to drive us all back to the school but right as we neared the gates, she suddenly took a left turn.
"Um you missed the turn," Brittney said
Morgan didn't answer immediately then after a minute she said, "That was the point,"
"Where are we going?" I said curious with also a prickle of worry,
"Don't give me that look, I'm not going to take you to some fishy place."
"That's good because I'm allergic to fish," Brittney said then went back on her phone
Fish? What kind of fish?... I shook my head What a stupid question....
I watched as we drove by the campus. The tall tower with the globe on top stood above all the other buildings. I stared at it as long as I could then when it left my field of vision, I turned back around taking in the night life of the city. Various shop signs glowed in vibrant colors. Hibachi...Cleaners...Alterations...Wilhelm Shopping Center... I read as we passed by. In the distance were skyscrapers with speckled yellow lights as if someone had scattered glitter onto the sides of the tall buildings and large rectangular bulletin boards posting the latest advertisements. My eyes widened as I saw one behind a few trees. It was a black car with glowing rims and angular lights. Beside it in large silver letters were "Lamborghini Aventador: The latest sports car."
"That car is really cool..." I whispered maybe a little too loudly,
"You're into cars?" Morgan asked with a note of surprise in her voice,
"I think they are pretty cool. I never got the chance to drive one...but I always wanted to...." I said feeling heat flush into my cheeks. I bet you are the first person I have ever said that to...
"I bet Circuit will be your new favorite thing. Even if it is just watching. Seeing all those people with their cool cars is the whole point for the club." Morgan said with a wink
"That is not the reason you go though," Brittney said with a sly smirk
"Shut up Brittney," Morgan said
"Eva, did you know Morgan doesn't like Circuit. She was nearly in a car accident once just because a truck lost control and hit a car in front of her, causing it to fly over the rails. Ever since then Morgan became a strict rule follower of the driving rules. She only goes to Circuit because-"
"We arrived guys," Morgan said pulling into a parking lot in front of a colorfully lit building that could have been as wide as a football field.
"What happened to the boy who went over the rails?" I asked
"Don't know. I didn't look into it. Probably was some idiot college student who got a little too high, but I can't believe that is the part you were interested in," Brittney shook her head
"Gossip spoils the mind, Brittney. Eva is smart because she doesn't care for gossip unlike you. Which is why you are such an idiot." Morgan smiled, "Come on guys or are you planning to sit in the car for the rest of the night?"
"Coming," I said Was I not supposed to care about the person who went over the rails? Then again to Brittney, hot gossip about other people she knows is her style...
I looked up and saw in bright navy blue and white letters "The Event: Bowling Alley and Video Games," I guess Morgan decided to take us bowling...but why this late??? Usually at my hometown, I always went three hours earlier so the place would be emptier and didn't end at like 2 in the morning...
I followed Morgan through the double sliding doors and into a neon-lit building with sounds varying from high pings to roaring motor engines. We walked to the bowling lanes behind the video game section where the sounds of the pins clattering against each other, and the floor were loudest.
"Hey Morgan!" Someone suddenly shouted in the distance. I looked over and saw a group of people waving at us from one of the red leather seats. On the table were several pizza boxes and empty plates littered with crumbs, spots of tomato sauce, and strands of cheese.
"Kate! Sammi! How are you? I brought a few friends if that's alright with you guys." Morgan said enthusiastically and gave each of the girls a hug.
"Of course, don't worry about it." One of the girls with long black hair and bleached ends said with a smile then looked towards Brittney and me. "Nice to meet you, my name is Sammi,"
"Hi, I'm Brittney,"
"Hi, nice to meet you guys, I'm Eva."
"Hi Eva and Brittney!" Sammi said then put a shoulder on the girl next to her. "This is Kate by the way," she said
"Hi," Kate said, "want to do some bowling or have a few snacks?"
"Don't mind if I do," Morgan said and walked to the table to grab a pizza slice.
"You just had dinner Morgan. How are you hungry again?" Brittney said raising an eyebrow
"Who just says no to free pizza." Morgan said then to Sammi, "Right?"
"Absolutely," Sammi said and grabbed another slice for herself.
"I can't believe it. It is a Morgan fan club," Brittney muttered then with a sigh and toss of her hair she sat on a red chair nearby. I tried suppressing a laugh as I followed Brittney and sat onto the chairs.
Morgan soon joined us and when she saw that I did not have a plate in front of me she said, "You didn't grab a bite?"
"I think I'll wait a bit. I'm a bit full right now." I said and Morgan nodded.
Suddenly a loud shout echoed the room and we all looked searching for who caused the loud disturbance. From the Lazer tag room exited someone with a confident grin who looked vaguely familiar. "Ughh, of course it's Davies," Morgan muttered then continued to chow down on her pizza.
Davies...
