The next day, Crowley took the triplets, Kokabiela and Dr. Young back to Archangel Falls. The Bentley simply wasn't big enough to carry the entire Fell and Archer family as well as the doctor so two trips would have to be taken. But while Crowley was seeing to that, Aziraphale was with the Metatron, making sure that the high ranking angel had enough supplies for Dagon and Uriel, who would still need treatment. Aziraphale even wrote several notes for Metatron, containing recipes and locations on where to find herbs should he run out.
"Thank you Aziraphale." Metatron rasped gratefully as he rifled through the stack of papers the Principality gave him.
"You're most welcome." Aziraphale replied. After watching the Metatron examine the basket that Aziraphale had brought with him to the Airbase, the Principality asked, "What will become of Heaven and Hell now?"
It took a while before the Metatron answered. "We'll take the time we need to rest and regain our strength before we return to our Head Offices. Then we'll rebuild what was lost after we've taken the time we need to grieve for those we have lost." Sadness filled the Metatron's bright blue eyes.
"And this time, we angels will do our jobs properly this time, without all that blasted paperwork."
"How's Eden doing?" Beezlebub asked as they and Gabriel walked around the Airbase. Eden was well enough to be left alone and Aziraphale thought that some air would do the Archangel some good.
Gabriel smiled, his chest swelling with pride. "Much better. Mercury's healing abilities have helped her tremendously."
"And the baby?"
The Archangel's smile broadened. "Aziraphale thinks that there could be twins…." Gabriel wiped his eyes with a freshly healed hand, also courtesy of Mercury.
"Oh." Beezlebub said, genuinely surprised. "That's wonderful. Congratulations."
Gabriel nodded with appreciation. The pair walked in silence for a while before the Archangel asked, "So, what will Hell do now that the War has been fought and….." Gabriel wasn't sure how to finish that question.
"You can say it Gabriel. Neither side won."
After a moment of silence, Beezlebub continued. "It's just Dagon and me now. We don't really have a purpose now. The souls of the damned or the redeemed have never been in our care, we, and the Opposition just fill out forms as they would come and go. In Hell's case, some would get specific punishments. But most would pass into the Astral plane where the Almighty would sort them out. All that is gone now. Even Purgatory."
Gabriel grimaced when Beezlebub mentioned Purgatory, the Archangel's mind swirling with bittersweet memories of that horrible place.
"Perhaps your purpose is to just take care of each other." Gabriel replied.
Beezlebub nodded. "Yes, Dagon and I were talking about that. We….We've been talking about completely rebuilding our old Head Office and making it more like…..a home."
Gabriel smiled, "A home is always a great way to start anew."
