Diana sat on her knees on the floor of Marshall's bedroom, bawling her eyes out and asking her God why he did this to her.

Sirius was trying his best to keep from crying but failed. Tears streamed down his warm brown cheeks as he bounced his legs vigorously in his chair.

Annie sat kneeling next to her own bed, eyes burning red from never ending tears while she spoke to her Lord.

"Why...?" she asked. "Why, why, why, why...he don't do nothin'. He don't do nothin'..." she shook her head.
She could hear her mother's screams in pain from the other room.
"WHY?!" Annie shouted.

Her face laid on her bed while her hands gripped at the comforter.
"Marshall, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, I should'a never let you go. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, big brother, I'm so sorry..." she cried.

"It shouldn't have been you nor Samuel. It should've never been y'all, I'm so sorry. I love you and I'm so sorry..." she said shakily.

"Where is that woman?!" Nancy shouted throughout the house. "STEPHEN!"
"What, Nancy!?" he replied.
"Where is Diana?"
"She ain't comin'." Daniel said as he walked down the stairs.
"Not coming. She's not coming, Daniel." Stephen corrected.
"Whatever." He walked into the kitchen to fix a sandwich.

"Like hell she isn't. She's got work to do. Niggas don't make the rules around here. Stop lettin' that nigga do whatever the hell she wants, Stephen!" Nancy shouted while she dialed the phone.

All of a sudden the handset was taken out of her palm and slammed onto the receiver.
She looked up only to see her son glaring at her.

"I said she's not comin'. If you don't like it, take it up with me." he grunted.
Nancy's jaw clenched. "Why isn't she coming?"
"Because I said she isn't."
"Stephen!" Nancy called with eyes on her son, who didn't back down.
"What now, Nancy?" Stephen exited their room while buttoning up his dress shirt.
"Your son won't let me call the help."
Stephen looked at his son. Daniel kept his eyes on his mother.

"You alright, son?" Stephen asked.
"If she wanna call 'em. She can move me." he demanded.
Nancy looked back at him and flinched at his intimidating gaze.
"You stopped shoutin'." he pointed out.
"Move, Daniel."
"Move me, Nancy."
She didn't budge.

He stood up even straighter and took a step closer.
"Was I too far?" he asked. "You wanna call? Do it."
"What has gotten into you?" she wondered quietly.
Stephen watched from the top steps while fixing his cuffs of his sleeves.
"You say that slur in this house again and you're gonna live on the street." he stated.
She stared at him.
"If I see you next to this phone again for the rest of the day, I'm gonna get angry."
"Are you threatening me?"
"Yea."

Nancy looked up at Stephen who was looking at his own sleeves.
"Stephen..." she called.
"You heard the boy." Stephen lifted his head. "Stay away from the fucking phone." He walked back to their bedroom to continue getting dressed.

Nancy tried straightening her spine but on the inside she was startled by her son. She looked at him no longer and instead walked up the stairs with as much dignity as she tried to pretend she had left.

Daniel looked back down at the phone.
He took a deep breath and walked back into the kitchen to figure out what to do. He hoped they had leftovers from the day before.

Annie sat next to Jenny on the front step of the Moore house. The two wiped their faces for the eleventh time with napkins they found inside.

"What am I gonna do without him?" Annie asked.
"You ain't without him. You or me. He's watchin' from above, isn't he?"
"That ain't the same!" Annie argued. "It's not the same I don't want him watchin' from a distance, I want my brother here! By my side! Helpin' me when I need help like he always does. I don't want him no where else. He shouldn't be no where else. He wasn't done livin'."
"Well God..."
"YOUR GOD LET IT HAPPEN TO HIM!" Annie shouted.
Jenny stopped speaking. She knew it was just Annie's pain talking.
"My God would've never done that. To me or nobody. My God wouldn't let this keep happenin' to us." Annie slurred through gritted teeth.
She sniffed and wiped her tears with the back of her hand.

"Your God owes me now and I want it paid back in full!" she said angrily. "He took my best friend from me. My brother. My protector. Are you gonna try teachin' me a lesson in this too? That I should be happy my brother's gone? That it means peace and prosperity or whatever bullshit lies you wanna sell to me that'll help make yourself feel better!? My brother is dead! I don't wanna hear about your God. I'm tired of hearin' that everything we go through is for a lesson. I'm tired of y'all tryin' to justify why my people have to die. They ain't gotta do shit but stay black! Don't you lie to me and make this a lesson! I don't want it, I don't want it, I don't want it. I want revenge." Annie preached through angry tears and a tightening throat. "You tell your god not to touch my people again."
