"So...until the cops showed up...did you like it?" Annie asked.
"Yea. It was a lot more peaceful than I thought it would be. I expected us to throw a few things."
"We don't have the privilege of bein' that violent and survivin' it." Annie explained.
"Yea..."

"Jenny said she's growin' a bit more fond of you." Annie changed the subject.
"Must be because you like me so much." Daniel smirked at her.
"Who said that?" Annie sassed.
"Well you're holdin' my hand right now, ain't ya?" he replied.
She took her hand away.

He snatched it back and held it in both of his inside his lap and she laughed.

The bus made another stop.

The two curiously watched to see who would get on.

A white man in a white t-shirt tucked into his slacks, holding a brown leather jacket on his fingers over his shoulder walked up the steps.
He had brushed back dark hair and a thin mustache.

The man put in his bus fare.

He and the driver gave each other a nod as a greeting.

The man began walking down the aisle.

He looked at how far the next vacant seat was. Then noticed the colored girl in the window seat close to the front.

He took his jacket off his fingers and held it in his hand.
"Go on and get up." he stated and moved out of the way to give her room.
Annie attempted to stand up but Daniel pulled her back down.
"She's alright where she's at." he stated.
"Daniel..." Annie whispered.
"I ain't talkin' to you." said the man to Daniel. He looked back at Annie. "Get up, girl. You ain't supposed to be up here anyway. You had your fun, move before I move you."

Annie had Daniel's hand on her thigh and took it as a sign to not get up. But he did for her.

Only then did Annie notice how much shorter the new man was than Daniel as Daniel had to look down at him.
"I told her to sit there, and she ain't goin' anywhere that I'm not. So...you gonna move me too?" he asked.
Annie watched his hand at his side while he used his thumb to go down his line of fingers and pop each of the knuckles.

The bus driver stared at them through his mirror.

The man continued looking up at Daniel.
He didn't say a word, but instead walked off towards the back of the bus. Keeping a mean face as if to show the other occupants that he still wasn't one to mess with, Daniel was just worse.

Daniel sat back down and adjusted himself to sit comfortably with an arm behind Annie's head on the back of the seat.

Annie turned around to see the man, only to notice him already glaring at her.

"Daniel, I think I should move..." she said quietly.
"Well, think about somethin' else." he commanded.
"But..."
He looked at her and she looked back.

"We did all that marchin' only for you to get scared to take a bus seat?" he asked.
Annie bowed her head shamefully.
He lifted it. "Take the seat. It's yours. You got here first."
She looked at him. "Don't kiss me." she whispered.
"How do you know I was gonna do that?"
"You're starin' at my lips like you usually do before you try to."
He laughed. "They're pretty, that's not my fault."
"You're gonna get us in trouble."
Daniel rolled his eyes. "You're such a prude." He let her face go and faced forward while she snickered.
"Maybe later."
He looked at her from the corner of his eye. "How much?"
"However much you want."
She watched a content smile slide on his face as he looked back forward.
She giggled. "You're disgusting."
"I didn't even say anything!"
"I read your thoughts."
He shrugged.

The two continued talking quietly amongst each other and enjoying the ride.

Once the bus circled back to where they originally got on, the couple got off and began their walk to Daniel's truck.

"I hope Jenny made it out alright." Annie stated.
"I bet she's fine. We weren't that close to the cops, she had time to run before they reached us. And she doesn't seem dumb."
"Yea. She's always been mischievous and a rule breaker so I'm sure she figured it out."

The two made it to Daniel's truck and hopped inside.

"Where do you wanna go?" he asked.
"I'm hungry." Annie admitted.
"What do you wanna eat?" he wondered as he drove off.
Annie thought about it.

"Nobody's at home right now..." she stated.
"Hm?"
"I can make somethin'. At my house. You can try my cooking and tell me if you still think you wanna marry me. After all, all you've had of mine is a couple of sandwiches and some cookies."
"And you wanna cook for me?"
"That's right."
"Don't have to tell me twice." he stated and drove a bit faster.
Annie smiled eagerly.
