Annie turned a corner and kept walking as she stared at the ground and hummed her song.
Daniel could see from a few feet away how cute she looked when she walked without a care in the world. Her bag on her shoulder, her hands behind her back, while she strolled and hummed.
He watched her do a double take at a dandelion she saw on the ground.
She couldn't pick it up any faster.
She looked to the sky to think of a wish. She smiled once she got it and blew as hard as she could. The specks detached themselves with help from the breeze and floated softly through the air. She got them all in one swift blow.
"ANNIE!" Daniel called.
Annie turned her head and looked at him.
A smile grew on both of their faces before Annie took off as fast as her feet could carry her. Her hands held up the skirt of her dress to make sure it didn't get in her way.
Daniel jogged before he found her in his arms and hugged her tightly with a lift that brought her feet off of the ground and made her giggle.
He placed her on the ground just so his lips could finally be on hers.
The two kissed on the side of the road across from the field of lavender."I missed you." he smiled as he held her face in his hands.
She giggled once again. "It's only been a few hours."
"Well that was too long."
She smiled. "I missed you too."The two took one another's hands and Annie pulled him across the street to their lavender in a hurry that made him laugh fondly.
Annie laid out her blanket and the two took a seat. She pulled out her journal and pen.
"What're you about to write?" Daniel wondered as he watched her flip through filled pages for an empty one.
"It's a secret."
"What? You've told me before."
"But I'm not telling you now."
"That's not fair. Why not?"
"Because it's a secret!" she reiterated as she wrote.Breakfast was great but I wasn't too focused on the conversations. I was too busy being excited. Because he and I made plans for this morning.
I know a lot of people would be upset with me if I were to tell them about the relationship I have with this man. Deep down I'm sorry. But I've never once experienced so much joy until I met him. I can be sorry because I know how problematic the idea is after everything they've put us through but I can't be sorry that I'm happy. I wouldn't tell him that though. Not yet. But he makes me really happy with his flirty ways, compliments, drama, and affection. I would prefer if we could walk hand in hand. If I could bring him home and we eat with my family."What if I gave you a kiss?" Daniel dealt.
"Wouldn't you just be winning twice?" Annie asked and looked at him.
Daniel thought about it. "Yes, but..."
She laughed.
"Okay what if..." He snatched the book quickly.
"Daniel!" she shouted.Annie attempted to grab her book from Daniel but he kept his hand out to block her as he read.
"Daniel, stop it right now!"
"Shhh I'm readin', don't be rude." he stated.
Annie felt a rush of embarrassment while she watched his eyes scan through her journal.Daniel read through her words while she turned away from him shyly.
He flipped to the previous page and saw that one had a part that was about him too.
He snickered at a comment she made about him and continued reading.
His head turned to look at her and he saw that she sat in the fetal position facing away from him.
Her chin laid on her knees.Daniel handed the notebook back to her and placed it in front of her feet.
"Why would you do that?" Annie asked.
He leaned into her and kissed her cheek, jawline, and under her ear.
"I like knowin' what you think about." he explained.
"So?"
"I wish we could walk hand in hand too."
She looked at him.
"And I think your journal is cute." he snickered.
"Don't laugh!"
"I'm not laughin' at you! I'm laughin' at how cute you are." he smirked.
She rolled her eyes and looked away.
He pulled her face back. "Come on, don't be embarrassed."
"It's hard." she stated and kept her eyes away from his.
He kissed her lips. "Look at me."He moved to sit directly in front of her and she looked in his eyes.
Daniel grabbed onto Annie's hand in both of his.
"I wanna be able to parade you around just as much as you do." he admitted.
"Really?"
"Yea. Who wouldn't?"
At least she was reminded that the feelings weren't one sided.
"And...it's gonna happen. One day."
She looked at him.
"One day we're gonna be allowed to walk outside hand in hand. I'm gonna kiss you in the middle of the street and neither one of us is gonna get in trouble. Some day real soon. I swear."
Annie sat on her knees then became face to face with Daniel.
She kissed his lips. "And until then, I'll take whatever I can get with you."He looked in her eyes. "I want you to become a nanny in my house."
Annie sat there, shocked. "What?"
"A nanny. Like what your mama is. I want you to become one for me so that you can stay with me. When I move out. I'm not runnin' for mayor ever. I'm not marryin' another woman. I want you to move with me and work in my house. I wanna see you everyday and I wanna eat only your food."
Annie smiled.
"We can move out of the city if you wanna. I just want you to come with me. I want you to live with me."
"I-..."
"No." Daniel interrupted Annie. "No, I want you to be my girlfriend livin' in my house. We're old. I want you to marry me."
Annie laughed.
"I want you to be my girlfriend in my house and we lie and say you're my nanny but really I kiss you goodnight all the time and you kiss me good mornin'. But they don't have to know. They're all idiots. Everybody. You should move in with me. As my girlfriend. Whenever I le-..."
Annie put her hand over Daniel's talking mouth as she giggled. His constant explaining was deemed cute and sweet by her. She liked that he would get talkative whenever they reached a topic he was serious about. The same thing happened when she asked him his favorite thing and he said working on cars. He talked for hours without letting Annie get a word in but she would sit and listen all over again if he wanted her to."I think that's a great idea." she stated.
He smiled beneath her hand.
"I want to move in with you as your girlfriend. But we'll lie and say I'm a nanny." she stated.
She removed her hand from his face.
