Sunday flew by and I have never wanted to go back in time more. Bonnie and I still haven't talked about what I said on Saturday, which goes to show how much she cares about me, supernatural abilities aside. Elena hasn't asked me about it yet but she told me that her door is always open. I know Caroline is a little concerned because she keeps texting me but something tells me it's for the gossip and not for me.
As I trek down the stairs, my mind is swimming with spells and blurred thoughts. I rub my eyes and tug my sweater sleeve down, seeing Aunt Jenna in the kitchen. "Hey, look who joins the world on time." I laugh and drop my bag on the bench, walking to the island and sliding into the chair. She slides a plate of hashbrowns over to me and I pick up a fork, shoving one into my mouth.
"Thank you." I mumble, staring at the counter. "No problem. Why are you up before I'm out for my shift?" I sniffle and look up, holding my fork. "Couldn't sleep. Long weekend and I exchanged a few words with Bonnie." She nods and tucks her hands into her pockets. "Did it have to do with a boy?" I chuckle and reply, "Yeah. But not in the way you think. We're just friends but she doesn't like us being with one another." Jenna nods and crosses her arms over her chest, leaning against the counter. "Listen, as much as Miranda got on my nerves, we always made up. Obviously the bond of sisters is different from cousins but you and Bonnie have been close for so long."
I look down at the hash browns and stab another one before eating it. "I know that this 'boy' may not be approved by cousin dearest but think about what she's saying. I'm not saying you should stop hanging out with him but observe his habits." I chuckle and comment, "I know his habits. I'm around the man almost every day. And I know Bonnie is looking out for me but there were months between our contacts before I got here. And that was after I got out of the hospital."
Jenna nods and I eat more of the hashbrowns, crunching as she grabs the orange juice and pours me a glass. "KJ, Bonnie loves you and cares for you more than you know. Right now, she feels that her way of loving you is to protect you, even from yourself." I roll my eyes and press my lips together. "Even if that means getting on your last nerve or always being in your business, she does care." She didn't care enough to visit when I wanted to end my life. But I guess we're all busy. I think.
I notice a small flame starting on the ends of my fingers, forming a wisp over my knuckles. I take a deep breath and watch it extinguish itself as Jenna turns back around. "OJ, fresh from the fridge." I laugh and say, "Thank you." before drinking it quickly and checking the time. "Oh shit, Damon's gonna be here." I get up and wash my plate, rinsing off the dishes and placing them on the drying mat as I run to grab my bag. I chug the rest of the OJ and race back into the kitchen, washing it out.
"I'm assuming Damon is said guy we've been talking about." I nod as I rinse my mouth out in the sink and spit. I give Jenna a hug and mumble a quick 'thank you' before heading to the door. Just as I open it, Damon's standing in the doorway. I grimace at Damon and mouth, 'I'm going to kill you later' before turning back to Jenna.
"Jenna, this is Damon Salvatore." I step back and watch him flash his charming smile and wave his fingers. "Hi." Jenna's eyes widen and when she goes to shake his hand, he takes it and kisses it instead. She looks over at me, nodding in approval. "Well, it was lovely to meet you, Aunt Jenna but I promised KJ that I would get her to school on time." I smile awkwardly and anxiously yank my bag strap before dragging Damon out of the house.
Once we get to his car, I shut the door behind me and see Jenna standing on the porch. "What vampire voodoo did you put on her?" I ask Damon, putting on my seatbelt. "Nothing but my good looks and charm." I fake gag and stick out my tongue as I roll my eyes and Damon chuckles as he pulls off from the sidewalk.

"I notice you haven't decided to punch me yet today, Womack." I hear Tyler say over my shoulder as he looks at my paper. "Seriously considering it." I mumble, covering my paper with my arm. "Hey, I was copying that!" He frowns. "Oh gee, looks like Mr. Lockwood is gonna have to do his own work instead of having mommy do it." I reply, putting the work back in my binder. "I'm not some kind of mommas boy if that's what you're saying." I glance over at him and answer, "It is what I'm saying. Now leave me alone or I will hit you again and this time, it's gonna be somewhere that hurts a lot more than your jaw." Tyler puts his hands up and walks back to his desk.
Before he can sit down, I mumble a movement spell so his chair scoots further back than where he's about to sit. Just as he's about to "sit" he completely misses the chair and the class bursts into laughter. I smile to myself and pull my journal from my backpack. I start at the beginning of last week and begin writing. "What'cha writing?" Elena asks, scooting over. I smile as I look up and reply, "Journaling. I haven't done a two-week catch-up, just everyday highlights so I'm gonna do a detailed story."
She nods and tucks her hair behind her ear. She's gonna talk to me about Bonnie. She only tucks her hair when she's nervous. I think. "KJ, you know Bonnie didn't mean what she said about Damon, right?" I put my pen down and reply, "It's okay Elena. She did. And I know he's not the good guy that Stefan is." Elena looks down and presses her lips together. I put my hand over hers and continue, "I know Bonnie cares, Elena. You don't have to fix this for us. We'll do it when we're ready." She nods and I tuck my pen into my journal before slipping it back into my bag. The bell rings and I pull my bag over my shoulder, walking out before Elena can ask me about something else.
As I weave around people in the hallway, my head starts swimming with thoughts and my hands begin to shake. This is only temporary, nothing lasts forever. You're only feeling like this because you're emotionally overwhelmed. I think. I focus on taking some deep breaths as I get to my locker and I grab my headphones, sliding them on over my ears and turning up the volume.
I rest my forehead against the cool metal and take another deep breath before turning to go to class. When I turn, I'm face to face with Jeremy. He holds his arms out and I walk into them slowly, wrapping my arms around his back. His chin rests on top of my head and I close my eyes, breathing him in.
