KJ's POV

As I sit in the car with Jeremy and Bonnie, I could cut the tension with a knife. I know they feel awkward about me seeing them together but honestly, I'm just blind-sided. I didn't think they even interacted with one another because Bonnie and I haven't hung out together at Aunt Jenna's. I stare out the window and watch as the leaves blow by. We pull into the school parking lot and Jeremy reaches to grab his bag from the backseat before getting out.

"Bonnie, you don't owe me an explanation." I say, pressing my lips together. "I really feel that I do." I sit up on the seat and scoot forward so I can look at her. "I couldn't even tell you how Jeremy and I ended up ..." Bonnie stops and tucks her hair behind her ear, revealing the earrings I brought her the day I moved back here. I smile to myself and she starts speaking again. "Elena knows so it's not like we're sneaking behind her back. She said it would actually be good for us. To have someone, I mean."

I nod and tug my messenger bag strap over my shoulder. "I know what she means. And honestly, I'm happy for you. Jeremy's a great guy and he's gonna treat you well. And like I said, I'm the last person you owe an explanation to." Bonnie nods and turns so we're face to face. "Thank you, KJ." I nod and put my hand on her shoulder. "You're welcome." "Come on, let's go in." She chuckles and brushes away the tear that rolled down her cheek before getting out.

I shut the door behind me and Jeremy leans up off the back of the car. "Cousins reunited?" Bonnie and I nod and I squeeze her hand before we walk toward the door. Caroline, Stefan, Matt, and Elena are all sitting at a bench near the front door and when they see the three of us approaching, they smile. "All is right between the Bennets, Gilberts, and Womacks?" Matt asks, leaning forward. "All is right." Jeremy responds.

As I leave English, I hear my stomach growl and take another sip of my water. I move around everyone in the hallway, making my way to the cafeteria so I could get donuts from the vending machine. I catch Elena's eye from down the hall and wave. She nods her head and mouths, "Snack?" I nod and we meet at the side door that would take us to the cafeteria. "How are classes going?" She asks as we walk over to the vending machine. I pull a dollar from my wallet and feed it into the machine.

"Honestly, everything is kind of blurring together. Tests, quizzes, classwork, homework. Everything is just busy work for me. I get it done, get the grade, and keep moving forward." I punch in the number for the donuts and the machine cranks it out but it gets stuck. I lean back and glance around to make sure there's no one else in the cafeteria before muttering a movement spell.

Two packages of donuts fall and I pick them up from the bottom of the dispenser. "Want one?" I ask, holding out a package. Elena shakes her head and says, "Not a whole package. Just one donut." I nod and chuckle, opening the package and tilting it toward Elena. She takes one and replies, "Thank you." I nod and eat one as well before walking out and heading up the stairs to my history class.

As I slip into the class, Jeremy slides into the seat next to me. "Hey hey." I nudge his shoulder as I drop my bag onto the floor and grab a notebook and my black pen. "Everything still boring you?" I nod and lean back into my chair, stretching my hand forward. "Yup. The days just blur together."  "KJ, have you thought about taking accelerated classes so you can finish quicker?"

I shake my head and tap my pen on the back of my hand. "I was behind for a while in Boston. It took a while for me to get back to being ahead in my work and my parents were always afraid I would push myself too far and snap again. I never brought it up because they still can't accept the fact that their gifted burnout child is now an academic failure." Jeremy shakes his head and runs his tongue over his top row of teeth. "Damn. That must've been hard."

I shrug and start writing an idea I have for the essay that our teacher is explaining right now. "It was but I'm here now so it doesn't matter." I reply. He bites on his lower lip before facing the board. I take the donuts from my left side and slide them across the table to him. I see Jer smile from the corner of my eye before taking a donut from the package.

Jeremy and I walk out of history and as we head down the stairs, I head to my locker to grab my jacket. "Not eating lunch with us?" I shake my head and pull my water bottle from my bag before shutting it in my locker. I tuck my phone into my back pocket and answer, "No. Damon's bringing me lunch." Jer nods and replies, "Have fun. I'll tell everyone you'll be out back with him." I nod and say, "Thank you."

I head toward the back door and see Damon back against the brick wall, one of his feet dangling over the edge of the loading dock and the other bent with his arm over them. I open the door and walk over to Damon, standing in front of him. "Afternoon Mr. Salvatore." "Ms. Womack." He replies, nodding his head at me. I kneel down to sit next to him and he opens his legs a little so I can sit between them.

He holds a white bag in front of my face and I smile before taking it eagerly. "Please tell me it's-" "Two orders of fries with an extra side of pickles." I squeal and open the bag, taking a fry out. Damon leans forward and eats it. I lean back and his hands wrap around my waist and rest in my lap as I contently eat some of my fries. "Damon, what do you think about me wanting to dual enroll at Whitmore?" He hums then responds, "I think you would have a lot of fun in college. And it would also be easier for me to sleep over."

He lightly kisses my neck after he ends his sentence and I laugh, tilting my head to get away from his lips. "I'm serious. Everything is so boring at Mystic Falls High. Half of the stuff I already know from my old school or the teachers are just giving us busy work." Damon eats another fry before responding, "I think college would be a good change of pace. What would you go for?" "English or creative writing. Something with the arts." "That's hot." Damon mutters, eating another fry. I shake my head and laugh, grabbing one of the pickles from the container. "Not the point, Damon."

this is my second update for today and i think that'll be it. i can update compassion next week once i get a better understanding of what i want to do with it.

i feel like these updates are more fillers but my jimmy sotos book is finally getting somewhere. i have to bring in more trouble for this one but i might leave some peace/fluff for the next two chapters just so everyone can breathe before everything starts happening.
