KJ's POV

I walk up the steps after getting out of Damon's car and I see Grams peeking through her window. Before I can reach for the knob, she holds open the door and says, "Child, you are going to get yourself killed being around that man." I nod and reply, "I might but at least you're acknowledging that he's more than a vampire." I step into the house and take off my sneakers, leaving them by the door.

Grams shuts the door behind me and replies, "To us, he should be no more than a vampire but we can protect ourselves well enough. It's everyone else we should be worried about because they perceive him as just a man." I arch my eyebrow as I walk into her living room and sit on the couch.

"Where's Bonnie?" Grams sits next to me and puts her hands on her thighs. "She didn't come. She said that I needed to talk to you." I roll my eyes and groan. "Grams, please tell Bonnie to stay out of my business. I'm not doing anything unwillingly and I promise you that I'm not hurt." Grams puts her hand over mine and squeezes it lightly. "I know what you're doing, child. And I know you've been with that vampire before."

I look down and say, "It was in Boston but I don't remember. He said that's when he first felt drawn to me." Grams nods and replies, "That man hasn't seen a new Bennet witch since myself and Bonnie. You were someone related to us, though distantly, and you were from out of town." I press my lips together and ask, "Where were they when I was younger?" Grams looks out the window and says, "The older one was terrorizing a small town in Georgia. Not terribly but to someone who knows that supernatural life existed it was obvious."

I lean forward and cross my feet at my ankles, adjusting myself to fully face Grams. "The younger one... I want to say he was here but anyone barely saw him. His uncle was running the boarding house but at that point, he was just the caretaker. No one was staying there." I nod and tug on one of the curls at the nape of my neck. "Grams, what do you know about the founding of Mystic Falls?" She lets my hand go and gets up, heading over to her cupboard.

"When the town was founded, it was under the impression to keep vampires out. Any other supernatural creature was fine but the members knew that having vampires in a small town could be devastating for the community. The Lockwood, Salvatore, Young, Walters, and Forbes families signed their names on the town deed and made a society to keep this town safe. Of course, this was before they realized that the two heirs to the Salvatore name had been recently turned."

I nod and Grams hands me a book, coated with an old fabric cover. "This is one of my grimoires. It has spells from all the witches that came before us in the Bennett line. Emily Bennett was the witch that gave Damon and Stefan their daylight rings." I nod and gently flip the pages of the grimoire. "I know it'll take time to master these but I can start now, right?" Grams smiles and replies, "You can do any spell that's in this book. With time you'll be able to master it and become better. But they can take a lot out of you so just be prepared to be tired."

I nod and look out of the window. Damon's car is still idling at the curb and I press my lips together before looking down. "Grams I love you but I think Mr. Salvatore was expecting this to be a quicker trip." She laughs and replies, "He does know who I am, right?" I chuckle and take out my phone to text him. "Yes, he is which is why I don't get why he's sitting outside."
