He was still alive when she found him.

He was breathing slowly, his eyes barely open. He lay in a crater caused by the impact of his landing.

Blake ran as fast as she could to reach Kong, but when she found him, when she came close to him, she couldn't move anymore. He was barely clinging to life. Barely breathing.

Kong turned his head, and he saw Blake standing before him. She was crying, her cheeks soaked in tears. Kong looked at her, his eyes filled with the same innocent affection that they always were. She didn't know if he knew she had failed to save him. But it didn't matter whether he knew or not. Either way, he still loved her.

Blake could feel the last heartbeat before the light faded from Kong's eyes.

He was gone.

Blake shut her eyes. She couldn't look anymore. He had taken her in. He had been so gentle. So kind. He'd protected her. He'd done more for her than anyone else ever had. And now, he was gone. Gone trying to protect her. Gone because of her.

It was her beauty that had killed the beast.

The crowd erupted into applause, and crowded around the body. Photographers climbed onto his chest to take pictures, only to be pulled down by Huntsmen.

Men crowded around Blake, some wrapping their arms around her shoulder and posing for the camera, like fake heroes. She ripped herself free of their grips, and they stared in confusion.

"Blake!!!"

Blake could hear Sun calling from within the crowd. She looked around, and spotted him running for her from the distance. She stared at him, but she didn't make any effort to run to him. Sun slowed down, and finally came to a stop. But he hadn't reached her. He stared from a distance, and he didn't make any effort to run any further to her.

He had seen the look of disgust on her face . . .
