The trap was set.

Barrels of chloroform were prepared inside the large pit created in the floor in front of the gate. Leaves had been set up above the pit to hide it when the ape broke through the gate. Torchwick smiled. The plan was perfect. In fact, right now, he could hear a bestial roar. It sounded like their target was on its way here now.

"Alright!" he called down. "Drop the barrels!"

A White Fang soldier pressed a button on his scroll, and a platform underneath the barrels dropped, causing them to tumble, and their lids to pop open. The gas began to spread inside of the pit.

Then, from the other side of the gate, Torchwick heard someone shouting.

"Torchwick!" Sun shouted. "Open the gate!"

Blake could see Roman standing atop the wall. He peered down towards them.

"Monkey-Man!" he said. "It's good to see you again!"

"We don't have time for this!" Sun shouted back. "He's right on our heels!"

"Kong?" Torchwick said.

"Yes!"

"Well, why didn't you say so? Come on in!"

Torchwick disappeared behind the wall.

Sun cursed under his breath, and paced frantically. Blake turned around. She could hear Kong approaching. There was still a lot of time before he got here, but if he arrived, she knew she had to keep Sun hidden. He wouldn't hurt her. She knew this for a fact. But if he thought Sun had captured her, she didn't even want to think about what he would do to him.

Then, the gate was pulled open. Sun and Blake ran through, and it was shut and bolted behind them.

Torchwick ran up to them, and led them off to the side.

"Good to see you two," he said. "So good to see the rescue turned out good. Now we can get you lovebirds home, and head on back with the big one."

Blake watched as he headed for the wall, and climbed up to the top. A few White Fang soldiers led them away from the gate.

Roman reached the top, and looked out at the forest. Immediately, he paused. There, right at the edge of the jungle, was Kong. He roared the moment he spotted Torchwick.

Kong marched towards the wall. He reached for Torchwick, but he quickly jumped down, grabbing the ladder before he could hit the floor. He looked up, and he could see Kong's hand breaking through the wooden spikes that were put there to keep him from climbing the wall.

Blake watched in terror. There were White Fang soldiers everywhere, guns trained on the gate. If Kong broke through, they would kill him.

A banging noise sounded. Chips of rock tumbled from the wall, and the wooden supports crumbled. Kong was trying to break through, but hitting the rock wall wouldn't do it.

More thoughts went through Blake's mind, and it left her more terrified. If those guns were fired, Kong would attack. The White Fang would keep shooting, and Kong wouldn't be able to defend himself. Her heart was twisting inside her.

Another bang. This time, it was closer to the gate. Kong was moving to the weakest point of the wall.

Blake took deep breaths, trying to ease the pain inside, but nothing worked. She was too afraid of what was going to happen to Kong. She'd grown a connection with him so quickly. It couldn't be torn apart so soon after this connection had formed.

Another bang. This time, the gate rocked, only held shut by the log. The banging increased now, and the gate rocked with each hit.

Blake was starting to feel tears stinging at her eyes now. She remembered all of those innocent expressions Kong had given her. She had never been given so much affection from one person. He was too precious to her. They couldn't kill him.

The banging was rapid, and the wood was bursting from its place. They could see Kong's hand.

Blake wanted to close her eyes. She didn't want to watch him die. But she couldn't look away.

Finally, the gate was torn from its hinges, and Kong charged through, roaring loudly. He took a massive step forward, and his foot fell into the pit, bringing the rest of his body with him.

There was silence.

Blake slowly made her way to the pit, and peered down. There was a gas. She could smell a little chloroform, and she backed up to keep from passing out.

The natives emerged from their homes. They slowly approached the pit, and stared inside with Blake. Kong was completely submerged inside, and none of them could see him.

A furred arm reached up from the gas, into the air. Blake watched it, and she didn't keep the tears from streaming down her cheeks as she saw Kong's arm. The natives got down on their knees, and bowed before their god. Blake stepped away from them, closer to the pit. She watched as his hand sank beneath the smoke, disappearing as Kong passed out.

This was all her fault . . .
